"Then you’re wrong." Osvaldo’s voice was a guttural growl, the sound scraping against his throat like claws on stone. "I’m a monster, Penguin. There’s a reason I was caged all my life. Listen to me and leave!" He pleaded this time, barely able to control himself.

Every muscle in his body was coiled, trembling with the effort of holding back. The chains around his wrists groaned under the strain, the metal biting into his flesh as he fought against them, not to break free, but to keep himself from reaching for her.

He didn’t want to hurt her again ro scare her. That’s the last thing he wanted. He cared about his Penguin so much. She’s the most important person to him right now.

Penny didn’t retreat. Instead, she clenched her fists and took a step closer, her breath hitching as the heat radiating from his body seared her skin. "Just tell me what I can do to help. Grandpa prepared a drug for you, to ease the pain. It might work." She said softly.

She was determined to help Os also tonight. She didn’t care how many times he’d tell her to go. Pushing her away was not going to do anything for him. It’ll only make matters worse.

Osvaldo laughed, the sound dark and jagged. "Penguin." His voice softened, a fragile thread of tenderness in the storm of his hunger. Heaven knew how much he was holding back, how every second she stood there, so close, so unbearably sweet, was another second his control unraveled.

Her scent filled his nostrils, his brain was already so familiar with her taste and he could already feel the taste of her on his tongue.

"Nothing is going to work on me." His eyes locked onto hers, burning with a feverish intensity that made her pulse stutter.

Penny bit her lower lip, the innocent gesture sending a fresh wave of agony through him. His fingers flexed, the chain on his right wrist creaking ominously. Then slowly... It cracked.

Penny’s eyes flickered to it. But she pushed her fear back. It was just a small crack, it not like he would hurt her. Osvaldo can never hurt her.

"We can never know for sure," she whispered, her voice like honey, soft, soothing and maddening. "Just try it. For my sake, Osvaldo."

That plea. That damned plea. It shattered what little restraint he had left.

"And if it doesn’t work?" He asked.

"Then I’ll take full responsibility for it." Penny said foolishly. She trusted Darlingtons little experiment. To her, she’ll never believe a man can be this cursed. It’s just not possible.

"Make sure to keep your words." Osvaldo warned to see her nod calmly.

"Give it to me." The words were barely human, more a snarl than speech.

Penny’s hands trembled as she uncorked the bottle, bringing it to his lips. He didn’t move, didn’t dare lean forward, because if he did, he wouldn’t stop at the bottle. He’d take her wrist. He’d drag her against him. He’d devour her.

She tipped the liquid into his mouth, her fingers brushing the searing heat of his lips. A shudder ripped through him, his jaw clenching as he swallowed.

The drug was useless. Nothing could quell the beast inside him, nothing but her, and that was a pleasure he refused to take by force.

Silence stretched between them, thick with tension. Seconds passed. Nothing changed.

Osvaldo’s chest heaved, his breath ragged. "I told you it wouldn’t work, Penguin." His voice was a rough caress, laced with pain.

Then... another crack.

The second chain snapped.

Penny’s eyes widened, her breath catching as the broken link clattered to the floor.

Osvaldo didn’t look at her. He Couldn’t. If he saw fear in her eyes, he’d lose the last shred of his sanity.

"I told you not to come here." His voice was a whisper, hoarse, strained and desperate.

Another crack. The first chain splintered.

His body convulsed, muscles locking as the beast inside him roared, demanding, hungry...

"I told you I’m a monster, Penguin." His hands were free and Penny watched him break the chain on his waist with ease. He broke chains like they were nothing.

At some point she wondered if he was human. Her Brain screamed at her to run. She should never have come here in the first place.

This man... Osvaldo Adkins was a monster.

Just what kind of drugs did Dewitt give to him?
