Chapter 178 A Punishment for Running Your Mouth
The news came as a surprise to Willow. After all, she hadn’t seen Brian ever since that day she’d told Chloe that Brian had feelings for another woman.
At first, she’d hoped that Brian and Chloe would break up over that rumor, but just now, she’d learned that Chloe was behind Sonya’s arrest and that Brian had helped her.
“Willow, Brian is backing Chloe now. You’ll lose your standing in the Quall family.”
Sonya’s warning echoed in Willow’s ears. It seemed even Sonya could tell that Willow was losing influence in the Quall family. Willow herself knew it too.
“Mr. Vaughn, do you know why?” she asked cautiously.
“You’ll know when you see him.”
When the door opened, a bodyguard stared at Willow, seemingly ready to use force if she refused to get into the car.
She stepped into the car, feeling anxious.
The car drove into the Steele residence. When Willow got out, she immediately saw Brian seated on a mahogany chair in a handsome suit. He looked elegant and mysterious.
His eyes carried a cold look, but every time he looked at Chloe, he seemed to be flirting with
her.
It fueled Willow’s jealousy again. Brian looked at them so differently, but she believed she was as good as Chloe.
“Brian, did you want to meet me because of what I said last time?” Willow asked. “But I told the truth. To be honest, you’re probably just treating Chloe as that girl’s replacement.”
“A replacement? I have no interest in that. If I want someone, I won’t look for a replacement— that means nothing at all.”
Willow refused to believe him.
“B-But you haven’t forgotten about that girl, have you? You’ve been looking for her. You wouldn’t have fallen for Chloe in no time if you didn’t see her as a replacement!”
“Oh, did I fall for Chloe fast?” Brian frowned.
He disagreed with her. He thought he should’ve fallen in love with Chloe faster, perhaps even love at first sight, so he could’ve facilitated her divorce instead of letting her waste more time

“I’m looking for that girl because I want to thank her for saving my life. As for Chloe, I love her for who she is.”
Both Chloe and that girl had charmed him, but he knew how to distinguish between gratitude and true love.
Willow looked jealous and indignant. “What’s so good about Chloe?”
“I won’t bother to tell you. I called you here today to warn you. If you spout nonsense in front of Chloe, I’ll make you pay for it,” he snapped.
She felt a chill down her spine. “Are you threatening me because of Chloe now?”
“I can go to greater lengths for her. Do you want to try me?” He stared at Willow vacantly, sending her into shock.
She realized that he meant what he said. He could punish anyone for Chloe’s sake.
Wayne’s words suddenly resurfaced in her mind. “Willow, Brian isn’t someone you can control. Don’t mess with him. Sure, he was the reason you lost an eye years ago. But if you keep fanning the flames, you might lose more than an eye.”
She wondered how Brian would deal with her if she revealed that they’d failed to save Daniel
because of him.
The thought left her drenched in a cold sweat. She’d wanted to weaponize that secret to regain Brian’s support, but now, she was worried that he might get rid of her if she told the truth.
“So, do you understand?” Brian asked in an airy voice.
She muttered feebly, “G-Got it…”
“I don’t think you do.” With a wave of his hand, Brian signaled William to slap Willow across
the face.
She yelped when the corner of her lips cracked from the slap.
“Keep going,” said Brian nonchalantly while going through the book in his hands. He didn’t even look up.
Willow was slapped a few more times in the face. Blood filled her mouth.
She stammered, “B-Brian… Spare me…”
She had heard stories of how cold-blooded he could be. At that time, she’d felt gleeful, thinking she was special to him. Although he wasn’t exactly gentle with her, he’d entertained

She’d silently watched him behave cruelly with others from the sidelines. She’d even laughed at his unlucky victims, thinking they must’ve been idiots to get on his wrong side.
Now that she’d become one of his victims, she no longer felt the same way.
