Chapter 180 Forcing Joanne to Bow
Joanne froze. She hadn’t expected the Qualls to truly turn out to be a family of military heroes.
“Even if your family is full of military heroes, you can’t force me to kneel!” Joanne snapped back to her senses, continuing to struggle and shout.
Chloe’s voice was icy. “Can’t I? If you keep spouting nonsense, I have all the right to demand an apology from you!”
As her words fell, she pressed down firmly on Joanne’s head with her hand.
Even though Joanne tried to resist, she was forced to kneel and bow in front of the altar-and Chloe made her do it repeatedly.
“Let go of me! Let go!” Joanne shouted, bowing again and again.
Helen tried several times to rush to Chloe’s side and save Joanne, but Lena held her back each
time.
“Chloe, you wicked woman! How dare you treat my daughter like this? I’ll sue you!” Helen shouted furiously.
Lena tugged at Helen. “Go ahead and sue us, then! Chloe will take your daughter to a military court for insulting martyrs!”
Helen’s face changed, and her voice grew noticeably quieter. “She… she wouldn’t.”
Lena sneered. “Really? Do you really think Chloe is some little pushover you can handle at will? She tolerated you because you were once her mother-in-law, but she doesn’t have to hold back now!”
Meanwhile, Joanne was still being forced to bow repeatedly. It wasn’t until she’d bowed countless times that Chloe finally released her.
Joanne got up, looking disheveled.
At that moment, a voice rang out. “Mom, Joanne, what’s-”
The voice cut off abruptly. Curtis stared in shock at Chloe standing not far away.
Over the last few days, Chloe’s figure had constantly flashed before his eyes.
He’d almost turned the entire villa upside down, trying to find some trace she might have left behind, but there was nothing. It was almost as if she’d never lived there at all.
He’d wanted to find her and repent for how he’d wronged her in the past. But he hadn’t
expected to run into her right here before he even set off to look for her.

As soon as Joanne saw Curtis, her look of fear vanished completely. She rushed straight to him, pointing at Chloe. “Curtis, I only snapped at Chloe a bit, but she forced me to kneel and apologize!”
“Right! Curtis, Joanne has been wronged! Chloe is way too cruel! You have to stand up sister!” Helen said, turning to her son.

With him present, Helen immediately felt confident. She believed that Curtis-the CEO of a listed company-could handle a woman like Chloe.
Curtis, meanwhile, was almost greedily staring at Chloe. He barely noticed what Helen and Joanne were saying.
Chloe’s icy voice rang out. “Curtis, are you going to stand up for them?”
“Stand up for them?” Curtis was momentarily taken aback.
“Joanne insulted me,” Chloe said. “She said I couldn’t find Daniel because I’d sinned too much
That it was karma. That’s why I made her kneel and apologize. But it seems she wasn’t sincere. She’ll need to kneel a little longer.”
Curtis was shocked and turned to look at Joanne. “Did you really say that?”
“What’s wrong with what I said? She’s done too many evil things anyway. Didn’t Sonya lose her job and end up in detention because of her? If it weren’t for her, Sonya would still be fine
now, and you
could-”
This time, Curtis slapped Joanne across the face. “Apologize to Chloe right now!”
Stunned, Joanne clutched her cheek.
What was going on? No matter what she’d said about Chloe before, Curtis had never laid a finger on her!
“Curtis, why did you hit Joanne? You should be hitting Chloe!” Helen hurriedly checked Joanne’s swollen cheek.
Curtis ignored Helen, keeping his eyes fixed on Joanne. “Apologize right now!”
how
“I didn’t do anything wrong! Why should I apologize?” Joanne stubbornly retorted. “Chloe is the one talking nonsense, saying her family is full of military heroes. If that was true, come you never mentioned it before?”
Her words landed like another fierce slap. Only this time, they struck Curtis right in the heart, making it ache.
He’d never known this fact about Chloe before because he’d never truly tried to understand her.

He’d married her back then because he’d been under pressure from his family and also because Sonya had gone abroad. He’d simply thought Chloe was a suitable wife. He’d never really bothered to understand her.
Even when Chloe had told him that her parents had passed away abroad, he’d only offered polite, shallow words of comfort.
If he’d truly tried to understand her, perhaps they wouldn’t have divorced.
