Chapter 35 Antonio Meets Annelise
Chapter 35 Antonio Meets Annelise
Rosalie had clearly misunderstood the situation. Clutching the medical book, her eyes gleamed with ambition. “Gloria, you’ve outdone yourself. With these, I’m certain I can cure Mr. Winthrop’s illness.”
“Really?” Gloria’s face broke into a delighted grin. “When can we meet him?” Realizing her excitement had gotten the better of her, she quickly added, “I mean, Madam Kendrick, could you bring me along to broaden my horizons? You know the Winthrop family only invites medical dynasties with serious clout. The Whitmans and Wilsons don’t have those kinds of connections.”
With the Etherhart Herb in hand, Rosalie dropped her lofty air. “Of course I’ll bring you along. If you help me cure Mr. Winthrop, I’ll personally introduce you to the Winthrops.” Gloria’s excitement doubled, and she redoubled her efforts to curry favor with Rosalie. Juliette, meanwhile, stood quietly to the side, her head bowed in thought, saying little. Rosalie didn’t notice Juliette’s reticence. She wasn’t fazed by missing a shot with the Caldwell family. In her mind, curing Mr. Winthrop would catapult the Kendrick family to fame in the medical world. Even Paradise Pharma wouldn’t dare blacklist them then–not when the Winthrops were too powerful to cross.
Feeling invincible, Rosalie’s mood lightened. Ignoring Gloria and Juliette’s presence, she eagerly flipped through the medical book, unable to put it down.
Juliette’s brow creased tighter as she watched. Her emotions had been a tangled mess since the conversation began.
“Mom,” Juliette said, her voice hesitant as her doubts grew. “What if Grandma really did pass some real skills to Annelise?”
Gloria scoffed. “That old hag? What skills could she have? She messes around with useless herbs and once killed a patient with her so–called treatments. Julie, don’t you dare say that in front of Madam Kendrick. She and your grandma are like oil and water‘
“I just think Prof. Kendrick’s acting strange,” Juliette pressed, her unease deepening. “Should we look into it?”

Gloria waved her off “Look into what? If your grandma had any real talent, would she be holed up in that dumpy foot massage shop? You haven’t seen it, Julie… It’s tiny and falling apart.”
“What about Annelise, then?” Juliette tilted her head, her voice sharp with suspicion “Mom. how did she suddenly master some fancy treatment? You and Dad always said she was dumber than a bag of hammers, that she couldn’t even pick up a foreign language. You told me the tutor came to the house, and she still flunked every test, barely scraping into technical school. So how’s she pulling this off now?”
Gloria’s brows knitted together, her own doubts stirring. “You’re right. That girl needs looking into. I want to know what she’s playing at, sticking around in Criford. If she won’t leave, maybe a good beating and a one–way trip to the outskirts will fix her.”
Gloria was fed up with Annelise’s constant presence.
She believed if money couldn’t get rid of her, a harsher lesson would.
Hearing this, Juliette relaxed, a coy smile spreading across her face as she looped her arm through Gloria’s. “Mom, I knew you’d have my back.”
“Julie, your job right now is to stick close to Madam Kendrick and learn everything you can. Gloria said, brimming with confidence in her daughter. “When you get your chance with Mr. Winthrop, you must shine.”
Annelise was always defiant, a stubborn thorn in Gloria’s side. Juliette, on the other hand, was nothing like Annelise. She was soft, delicate, and effortlessly charming.
“You’re destined to marry into the Winthrop family,” Gloria continued, her voice firm. “Annelise? She’ll only sink lower. You two aren’t even in the same league. Don’t waste your breath on her, got it?”
