Chapter 7 Got a Boyfriend?

Everyone gasped and started whispering,

“Every guest at Caesar Hotel today is a big name–old medical families, they say ”

“So what’s this kid doing here?”

Annelise wasn’t surprised. Corey was dressed like old money, and that watch on his wrist cost a fortune.

“Bring a bodyguard next time,” she told him, snapping her medical kit shut.

As she turned to go, he hugged her leg tight.

She couldn’t pedal with him attached. So she looked down at him.

He clutched the corner of her jacket in silence.

Every step she took, he shuffled right after her.

She thought they couldn’t keep this up

forever.

So she stopped. “I’ll take

you home.”

“Yay!” Corey got what he wanted and nodded hard. “I’ll get my family to give you a big thank–you!”

Annelise rolled up his sleeve. “No need. I don’t take money from kids.

“Well…” Corey’s round eyes darted. “Got a boyfriend?”

“Nope.” She straightened up.

“Perfect! I’ll make my third brother marry you!” He beamed, counting on his little fingers. “He’s quiet, but he’s hot and rich. A total arm–candy! Lots of girls want him!”

Annelise laughed. “I’m not shopping for a husband now.”

“Oh…” His ears flopped like a sad puppy. He dragged his feet the whole way home.

When they reached the hotel door, he lifted his face, all fired up again. “At least meet him first! After you see him, you can still say no!”

That face of Adrian could hook anyone. His looks were pure cheat codes.

Annelise chuckled. “Does he know you’re pimping him out?”

“He’s always sick,” Corey said, serious now. “My family wants him to get a wife soon. You’re pretty and such a great doctor. Tons of guys must be after you, so I’ve gotta snag you for him before someone else does.”

Annelise saw how dry and pale his lips were and bought him a bottle of water and a pack of soda crackers. “Less talking. You’re not fully better yet.”

Corey was as good as gold. He ate and drank whatever she handed over.

He couldn’t pop the cap, so he held the bottle up, soft and weak. “Help me.

Tommy had just stepped out of the car when he spotted them.

He thought, “Wait, isn’t that the fake heiress the Whitman family kicked out? Why is Mr. Corey with her?

“And he’s asking her to open his water? Has he suddenly gone soft or what?”

His eyes flickered with surprise, but he quickly hid it.
