After my death, my husband who had wanted to divorce went insane. novel Chapter 25

25

At home, my mother had been anxiously waiting for us, a full feast already laid out on the table. But then, she heard a scream. She rushed outside, only to be met with chaos.

As Kevin and I approached the house, a truck suddenly veered out of control, crashing straight toward us. It was moving so fast, there was no time to react. Kevin instinctively threw his arms around me, shielding me from impact.

I screamed, frozen in fear, until, out of nowhere, a car screeched to a stop right in front of us, taking the brunt of the collision.

The next moment, debris rained down across the ground. Shattered car parts were scattered everywhere. We stood there in shock, unable to move, until I heard my mother calling my name. Her voice pulled me back to reality.

She ran to me, wrapping me tightly in her arms.

When she turned on the courtyard light, her eyes widened in disbelief. Only then did she see clearly who was behind the wheel of the truck. It was Demi.

Ever since her daughter lost her mind in the hospital, Demi had harbored a burning hatred toward me and my mother, always waiting for a chance to take revenge. And on this dark, wind-swept night, she finally took it.

She thought she could kill me.

What she didn’t expect was that a car would suddenly rush forward, blocking the crash and saving my life.

The car that took the hit was mangled beyond recognition. Police arrived swiftly and began ɔrying open the wreckage. The bloodied figure they pulled out made my breath catch.

t was Cooper.

My eyes widened in disbelief. Cooper staggered toward me, barely able to stand, but Kevin stepped in front of me, shielding me without hesitation.

‘Sabrina… I’m sorry. For you… and for the child,” Cooper rasped. “I’m going in tomorrow, but onight… I wanted to say goodbye. I never thought… I’d end up saving you.”

Blood trickled down from his forehead, flowing faster by the second, until his knees buckled and he collapsed. The ambulance took him away. And all that remained was Demi, restrained by police, screaming curses into the night.

My mother stood silent. Tanner held her hand, steady and unshaken.

‘You ruined my daughter, turned her into something not human, not a ghost! Annie, I will never let you go!” Demi shrieked.

My mother, visibly upset, shut her eyes and turned to go inside. In the end, Demi was suspected of intentional injury, and the police took her away, finally restoring a sense of calm.

We didn’t linger on the unexpected chaos. After collecting ourselves, we returned to our meal. Quietly, my mother told me she wanted to live with Tanner from now on. She asked for my thoughts with caution, and I agreed without hesitation, going so far as to suggest we hold a joyful wedding.

I had seen her old wedding photo. There was no diamond ring, and her dress had been painfully simple. Kevin and I shared the same thought: they should at least have a beautiful set of wedding portraits to cherish.

My mother smiled and lowered her head. “I’m already this old. Just living together is enough. There’s no need for a wedding.”

But Tanner and I objected at the same time.

Her forty-fifth birthday was coming up in a month. What better day for a wedding than that?

She also asked about my own plans. At first, Kevin and I simply wanted to travel the world. After that, we’d see where life would take us.

Laughter carried us into the next day. Dixie was lawfully imprisoned, and Demi’s conviction for intentional injury was confirmed; she, too, was sent to the detention center.

Cooper’s injuries had been too severe. He stopped breathing during surgery. When I heard the news, I only let out a quiet sigh.
