Listening to Dixie’s twisted lies, Cooper could only shake his head helplessly, a bitter smile tugging at his lips.
The evidence in court was overwhelming, yet Elsie refused to give in. She filed for an appeal, unwilling to accept defeat.
But by the time the court resumed for the verdict, the deadline had lapsed, and the trial was forced to be postponed.
Thanks to Elsie’s arrangements, both Cooper and Dixie were temporarily released, though their every movement remained under strict surveillance.
Outside the courthouse, Cooper looked worn and defeated. Without warning, Elsie slapped him hard across the face.
‘Idiot!”
‘A girl like Sabrina, so good to you, and you threw her away for Dixie. You even murdered her
usband!”
‘Did you hear what she said in court? She wiped her hands clean like none of it ever happened.”
Elsie’s furious gaze bounced between Cooper and Dixie.
Still shaken, Dixie clung tightly to Demi, who gently comforted her, whispering that it was all inally over.
Since their release, Cooper hadn’t looked Dixie in the eye once. When she realized this, she quickly slipped back into her usual performance.
‘Cooper, I’m just glad you’re okay. I was terrified earlier. What I said just now was only to throw hem off. I’m still carrying your child, how could I possibly leave you?”
Her voice trembled with sincerity.
But Cooper could no longer tell whether her words were genuine or not, so he chose to stay silent.
From a distance, Kevin and I appeared. The golden glow of the setting sun bathed my face, Jiving me a radiant look. Kevin stared a bit too long.
‘What is it?” I turned to him.
He quickly shook his head.
t had indeed been quite a show today. I knew Kevin must have worked hard behind the scenes, and I felt deeply grateful.
Just as we were about to leave, Cooper suddenly rushed toward me from afar. Startled, I took a small step back, and Kevin instinctively stepped in front of me.
“What, Cooper? Trial just ended, and you already have time to catch up?” Kevin said coolly. Cooper suspected Kevin was behind it all, but with no proof, he stayed silent. He simply stretched his neck, trying to catch my attention.
“Sabrina, how have you been lately? I’m so sorry about the child… can you forgive me?” he asked cautiously, regret clouding his face.
I kept my head lowered, refusing to respond. Still, he went on, dragging up fragments from the
past.
“Do you remember that restaurant you wanted to try? And the jewelry you liked? I can take you right now…”
Before he could finish, Kevin cut in. “Funny, I’ve already prepared a gift for Sabrina, and I was just about to take her to dinner to celebrate.”
He turned to me with a smile. I caught on and gave a slight nod.
Overwhelmed, Cooper reached for my hand, only to press against an injury. I winced, the pain sharp, and Kevin’s expression instantly darkened.
Exhausted, I pulled my hand away and said slowly, “The person who saved me back then, it wasn’t you, was it?”
Cooper froze. “Sabrina, what are you talking about?
‘There’s no need to say more. ‘Kevy’, that’s the man standing right in front of you. Kevin. I haven’ forgotten what you did. You made me sign a voluntary divorce just to be with Dixie. You believed ner when she claimed the child I carried wasn’t yours. I’m sure you know the truth now.”
My voice was calm, but cold.
Shame washed over Cooper’s face. He had nothing left to say, only muttered a pitiful string of apologies.
‘Go back. From now on, whatever happens to you has nothing to do with me.”
let out a soft sigh and turned to leave. But before I could walk far, Dixie came charging toward ne from a distance, reaching out to grab me.
Kevin, finally losing patience, shoved her aside. Unexpectedly, she rolled across the ground several times before losing her balance and tumbling down the steps, landing hard at the >ottom.
She suddenly clutched her stomach in agony. Seeing this, Demi hurried to support her, but Dixie had already fainted from the pain.
Cooper turned back, his gaze filled with reluctance.
After helping me into the car, Kevin handed the evidence from his bag to Cooper.
Take a good look, your precious Dixie has been so ‘wonderful’ to you. And one more thing, if you teep pestering Sabrina, I’ll make sure you regret it far more than this.”
With that, Kevin stepped on the gas and sped off.
