“I get what you’re trying to figure out. There’s no scar on my leg because I had surgery to get it removed back in college,” Rebecca said, completely unfazed. “If you don’t believe me, you’re welcome to check my medical records.”

Jeffrey instantly shook his head, his expression souring. “That’s not funny at all.”

Rebecca continued, “Andrea couldn’t even say what she wore that day, right?

“When I told Jessica that story, I left out all those irrelevant details. But I still remember–I was in a pink princess dress, with my hair styled like a princess.

“I got the scar on my leg when I cut myself pulling you out of the water.”

Rebecca retold what happened that day, step by step.

She was certain Jeffrey remembered. He’d always made such a big deal about being saved when he was a kid- there’s no way he’d forget a single detail from that day.

“Don’t you always keep your promises?” Rebecca forced down a heavy feeling in her chest, her tone calm and unyielding. “I want a divorce. From today onward, stay out of my life completely. Don’t watch me, whether openly or secretly. Unless it’s about the divorce, don’t ever step into my world again.”

Her words struck Jeffrey like a barrage of arrows, tearing straight through his heart.

He felt utterly shattered in that moment.

He wanted to deny it.

He wanted to believe Rebecca was just making all this up as an excuse to get a divorce.

But his rational mind told him Rebecca wasn’t lying, and everything she said made perfect sense.

As Rebecca approached, her face calm and completely unreadable, Stanley felt his stomach drop. He shot Gregory a look and murmured, “You don’t think Rebecca already broke the news to Jeffrey, do you?”

“Looking at Mr. Hanson, I’d bet she did,” Gregory said quietly, catching the shaken look on Jeffrey’s face.

For Mr. Hanson, keeping his promises was just how he operated.

And for Ms. Jensen, wanting out after all the hurt he’d caused her was more than justified.

Rebecca made her way over to them.

Stanley stepped in front of her, blocking her path. “What did you say to Jeffrey?”

“I told him everything you couldn’t bring yourself to say,” Rebecca replied, her voice empty of emotion. As she spoke, she handed Jeffrey’s coat to Gregory.

Stanley looked like he wanted to say something, but stopped himself, a sinking feeling gnawing at him. “And then?”

“I told him to keep his promise and divorce me,” Rebecca said, not holding anything back.

“You know better than anyone how much he cares about you, but you leveraged his word just like Andrea did –forcing him to do something he’s dead set against,” Stanley snapped, his worry for Jeffrey making him almost blame Rebecca. “Is that even fair to his feelings for you?”

Gregory stepped in quickly. “You’re out of line, Mr. Garcia.”

Stanley was about to fire back, but all the mess from the past few weeks came rushing to mind, and he choked down the rest of his words.

“Sorry, I just can’t help but worry that this divorce might break Jeffrey for good. I got a little carried away, he admitted, his emotions all over the place.

Jeffrey had finally gotten to live like an ordinary guy for a few years.

A few years ago, Rebecca was the one who helped him find his way back. But now?

If they really got divorced, Stanley didn’t even dare to think about what kind of wreck Jeffrey’d become.

Just as Stanley was lost in thought, Jeffrey came over. He was still in the same outfit as before, but now he just looked completely wrecked–like all the fight had been sucked right out of him.

Stanley was the first to notice. He opened his mouth to say something but ended up just mumbling, “Jeffrey…”

Jeffrey walked right past him, eyes fixed on Rebecca’s face, which looked as distant as ever. His voice came out rough and shaky, “What you said just now…”

“I meant every word,” Rebecca replied, not hesitating for even a second.

Jeffrey’s hand clenched a little tighter. “You’re really not going to take it back?”

“No,” Rebecca replied, her voice unwavering.

“Alright,” Jeffrey said quietly. He knew there was no changing her mind. “Just tell me when, and I’ll go with you to Jelasburg and get it done.”

“Let’s just do it tomorrow,” Rebecca said, determined to get it over with in one go.

“Isn’t that kinda rushed?” Stanley said, shooting a glance at Jeffrey’s chest. “He’s still got that knife wound that hasn’t healed. Making him fly all the way back to Jelasburg right now… he’ll really suffer.”

Gregory quietly sighed.

He could already tell why Ms. Jensen didn’t want to wait.

After last time, she was worried that if they dragged it out, things might get messy again.

“I’ll get the medical team and a private jet lined up for tomorrow,” Gregory chimed in. “But flight clearance isn’t instant–the earliest they’ll clear us is this afternoon.”

“Alright,” Rebecca replied.

She dared to suggest tomorrow precisely because she knew Jeffrey always had a medical team ready to look after him.

It might be a bit of a pain, but she had no intention of putting this off any longer.

This time around, she refused to let anything derail this cooling–off period.

“Are you the boss here, or is Jeffrey?” Stanley cut in, all his focus on Jeffrey’s health. “If you push him to fly around like this, what if his wound gets infected and things go south?”
