Chapter 269
Jeffrey ignored him and walked past, heading outside.

Gregory didn’t try to stop him. Instead, turning to glare at Jeffrey’s back, he threatened, “If you so much as go for a run, I’ll call Ms. Jensen myself and let her know just how reckless you’ve been with your health since the divorce,”
Jeffrey stopped in his tracks.
Gregory broke out in a cold sweat.
He knew threatening Mr. Hanson was playing with fire, but if he didn’t do it, Jeffrey would probably run himself into the ground one of these days.
“Got a lot of free time on your hands?” Jeffrey’s expression was unreadable.
“Yes,” Gregory replied, maintaining his professional calm, though his heart was practically pounding out of his chest. “You’ve finished all my tasks yourself. I’ve had nothing to do lately.”
Jeffrey didn’t lose any of his intimidating vibe. “Alright.”
Gregory grew even more uneasy.
‘What does he mean by that?‘ Gregory wondered.
“The company doesn’t pay people to sit around doing nothing,” Jeffrey said, keeping his slow and intimidating tone. “Since you’re so free, go help those guys fix up the mess you all made. I’ll come check it when the break is over.”
“Wait, isn’t that supposed to be their problem?” Gregory blurted out, really didn’t see that coming at all.
“You didn’t keep an eye on them, so that comes back on you too,” Jeffrey replied.
Gregory could only stare, speechless.
Gregory said, “Guess I’m not so free after all.”
Jeffrey’s gaze never softened, still radiating that overwhelming pressure. “Even if you’re swamped, keep a close – but discreet–watch on things. Stephen’s been making lots of moves recently. Don’t let him get away with anything.”
“Got it,” Gregory replied, though it was clear he was forcing himself.
Jeffrey just grunted and turned away.
Just before Jeffrey could start running, Gregory brought his phone to his ear, all business, and said, “Hello, Ms. Jensen.”
Before he could even finish, Jeffrey snatched the phone right out of his hand.

Chapter 269
Before he could even finish, Jeffrey snatched the phone right out of his hand.
When Jeffrey noticed there wasn’t any actual call, a dangerous gleam flickered in his jet black eyes,
2200
Gregory felt a chill run down his spine, but he forced himself to speak up.“Mr. Hanson, I’m only trying to look out for your health. You’ve hardly been sleeping these days, and sometimes you don’t rest at all. If you go for a run now, you’re seriously risking collapsing”
“Your only job here is being the executive assistant at the Hanson Group, Jeffrey said flatly, handing the phone back without another glance and walking off.
Gregory knew he was probably sticking his nose where it didn’t belong, but after all these years, Mr. Hanson had always treated him decently. He just couldn’t turn a blind eye and let something awful happen.
Thinking that, he quickly dialed Stanley.
When Stanley arrived, Jeffrey had just finished his morning run and taken a shower. Stanley showed up in the living room without even announcing himself, and Jeffrey just greeted him flatly with, “What do you want?”
Stanley stared at him.
Jeffrey looked nothing short of energetic.
There were faint traces of exhaustion on his face, but nothing too obvious.
He was a far cry from the person Gregory had described, almost like two different people.
“Nothing,” Stanley said, clearing his throat to hide his awkwardness. Remembering all the tough talk he’d given earlier, he couldn’t help but get snarky. “Just wanted to see how you’re holding up after the divorce with
Rebecca.”
Jeffrey didn’t even blink as he picked up his glass and took a sip. His hair, still a bit damp, fell over his forehead, making him look every bit the picture of refined restraint.
Seeing that annoyingly handsome face, Stanley instantly regretted coming over.
Then it hit him.
Even though Jeffrey and Rebecca were divorced now, as long as Jeffrey finally understood what it meant to keep his word, getting Rebecca to forgive him wouldn’t be that hard.
Handsome as hell.
Never had a problem owning up when he messed up.
Would actually fix things when he realized he’d made a mistake.
He was loaded.
But best of all, when it came to love, he knew Rebecca inside out. No matter how much she tried to hide her true feelings, he always knew exactly what she wanted–even when she wouldn’t say it out loud.

If Stanley were a woman, honestly, he’d never stand a chance against the way Jeffrey chases after people,
I’ve been thinking lately,” Stanley said, switching things up. “You know, you’ve got a point. Everyone needs something to believe in. I’ve decided I’m gonna follow your example.”
Jeffrey set his glass down, giving Stanley a look like he’d lost his mind.
“From now on, I’m sticking to my word,” Stanley said seriously. “Whatever I say, I’ll make it happen. No exceptions.”
Jeffrey didn’t even bother to respond.
He just turned and headed upstairs to get Samuel for breakfast.
Stanley hurried after him, practically skipping steps. “You don’t believe me?”
Jeffrey didn’t even bother to look back. “Suit yourself.”
“I’m serious!” Stanley insisted.
“Serious about what?” Samuel muttered groggily as he cracked the door open, his big round eyes still clouded with sleep.
“Time for breakfast,” Jeffrey said.
Samuel just nodded. “Okay.”
Stanley stared at Samuel, then at Jeffrey, a thousand questions swirling in his mind.
‘Hold up, wasn’t Samuel supposed to be living with Rebecca? How come he’s here? Did Jeffrey suddenly change his mind and take him back? That doesn’t make sense–if Samuel was really dragged back here, no way would he be this calm,‘ Stanley grumbled to himself.
Jeffrey and Samuel both ignored Stanley, acting like his confusion didn’t even exist.
As they settled in for breakfast, Jeffrey said casually, “Once we’re done, I’ll drive you back to Honnala.”
Samuel paused mid–bite.
“I’ve got an overseas business trip tomorrow, so I can’t take you along,” Jeffrey said, tossing out the excuse. “When you get home, listen to your mom and grandma. If you need me, just give me a call.”
Samuel looked at him for a few moments before nodding. “Okay.”
“Since when are you going abroad for work tomorrow?” Stanley butted in.
“It’s Hanson Group top secret stuff,” Jeffrey replied, the way he shot people down as relentless as ever. “Like I’d ever let an outsider like you know about it.”
Stanley just stared, speechless.

After breakfast, Jeffrey messaged Rebecca to let her know he was sending Samuel home. “I’ll have someone drop him off at your villa–no need to come to the airport.”
Rebecca happened to be checking the time on her phone when she got his message.
She thought about asking why Samuel was coming back so soon, but decided it wasn’t worth bringing up.
Noticing Rebecca was typing but hadn’t replied yet, Jeffrey followed up: [I’ll drop him off outside your villa, and Barry will bring him in.]
