Bound by Magic, Married by Fate novel Chapter 62

Chapter 62

As they left the cafe, Everett couldn’t quite contain his excitement. Val, congratulations. You finally got what you wanted.

Valerie, however, remained calm despite having secured both property and cash. She tapped on her phone a few times. Thanks for today.

Everett reached over and ruffled her hair. Come on, no need for thanks between us. It’s just the way it should be.

Just then, his phone buzzed with a bank notification. He glanced down and froze. The transfer was from Valerie.

She showed her phone to him. That’s your legal fee. Check your account.

Everett let out a laugh that was halfhelpless and halfamused. You actually paid me?

Well, you know me,Valerie said evenly. I don’t owe people favors.

Everett was left speechless by her retort. After knowing Valerie for so long, he understood well that she never left a debt of kindness unpaid. It was precisely because she valued loyalty that her friends were willing to go through thick and thin for her.

Fine. If you insisted on rewarding me, I’d be the ungrateful one to refuse. He pocketed his phone. And since I’ve accepted this, I’ll make sure not to let you down. I’ll call in some favors. Give me three days, and that mansion will legally be yours.

After all, until her name was printed on the deed, anything could still change.

Valerie didn’t bother with politeness. I’ll be counting on you these next few days.

Where are you headed?Everett asked. Do you want me to give you a ride?

They were standing in one of the busiest shopping districts in the city, surrounded by gleaming malls.

Valerie waved him off. You go ahead. I want to wander around a bit.

After parting with him, she slipped into a department store with a pleasant atmosphere, enjoying a stroll she hadn’t indulged in for a long while.

It was the weekend, and the crowds weren’t light.

Valerie knew her looks drew attention, which was why she’d gotten used to wearing a mask whenever she went out. Even so, it didn’t stop people from stealing glances her way.

Passing a jewelry store, her eyes caught on a sparkling diamondstudded teddy bear in the

window. It was palmsized, encrusted with tiny diamonds. The stones themselves weren’t particularly valuable, but the exquisite craftsmanship stirred something in hera sudden

desire to own it.

She stepped inside and found the shop much larger than it looked from the outside. Gentle piano music filled the air, while scattered customers conversed with staff about different

pieces.

Approaching a saleswoman who seemed to be idling, Valerie asked, How much is the teddy

bear in the window?

The one she addressedMarceline Hawthorne, around 30was dressed in the store’s standard uniform. She wore impossibly high heels, immaculate makeup, and a string of oversized pearls against her blouse’s slightly open collar.
