Bound by Magic, Married by Fate novel Chapter 63

Chapter 63

Valerie hadn’t expected to run into something like this.

But instead of leaving, she sank into a single couch, twirling her pen between her fingers as she smiled with unhurried ease.

You’re funny, miss. Comparing your store’s products to those cheap knockoffs online? Even if your jewelry’s quality is debatable, just your snobbish, condescending attitude alone is enough to drag your brand’s image through the mud.

Maybe it was Valerie’s poise or tone, but Marceline suddenly felt the lady before her radiate a presence sharp enough to chill the air.

Unwilling to back down and let her dignity take a hit, Marceline sneered. It’s 288 thousand dollars. Can you afford it?

Fresh from pocketing two billion dollars, Valerie was about to slap down her card and

humiliate her when mocking laughter sounded from behind.

Since when did beggars stop knowing their place?

Valerie turned, only to see a familiar faceher stepmother, Marnie.

No surprise there. Once a starlet whose fame had filled the tabloids, she still carried herself with seductive poise despite her age. She glittered in jewels and couture, flaunting wealth with the subtlety of a neon sign.

The moment Marceline spotted her, her arrogance vanished. She rushed over with a

sycophant’s eagerness.

Mrs. Woodward, what an honor. Just days ago, we received a new collection of fine pieces, each designed by an expert. They’re perfectly suited to your status and elegance. Shall I bring them out for you?

Marnie brushed past Marceline’s attempt at flattery and instead turned her scorn on Valerie. Just being in the same store as someone like her feels beneath me.

Valerie nodded in mock agreement. For once, I actually share this old lady’s opinion. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

The words old ladyirritated Marnie, and her voice rose a pitch. The one who should leave is you. Do you even belong in a place like this?

What do you mean, someone like me?Valerie asked coolly.

Marnie’s words dripped venom. You’re just a filthy pauper from the countryside.

Marceline’s eyes lit with interest. Oh? Do you two know each other?

Marnie’s hatred for Valerie ran deep. Not only had Valerie refused to donate a kidney to Jay, but Sonia had also confessed to being humiliated by Valerie in public.

Now, with Valerie standing here, it was the perfect time to vent her spite.

Know her? Of course I do,Marnie said loudly enough for the whole store to hear. I know her all too well. She’s my husband’s destitute relative. Not long ago, she was even detained by the police for her misconduct. She’s a disgracea troublemaker, criminal, and parasite on society.

The crowd stirred. Every eye turned toward Valerie, suspicion and contempt replacing

curiosity.

Marceline was sharp enough to see that Marnie was seizing the chance to humiliate Valerie.

Adding fuel to the fire, she sneered. Who would’ve thought someone so young could already have such a scandalous track record? No wonder she hides behind a mask while shopping there are probably too many skeletons in the closet to show her face.

She turned to her coworkers with a sharp command. Keep an eye on the counters. If anything goes missing, it’ll be hell to prove otherwise.

She might as well have called Valerie a thief to her face.
