Chapter 82
“Why would you release videos that are bad for Ms. Collins‘ reputation unprompted?” Darrell asked. “You must’ve edited those videos, right? After all, people like you, who deal with IT, can easily create fake videos and evidence to frame others.”
Sonia glared at him. “I didn’t edit or make anything up! I’ve been telling the truth this entire time. Valerie is nothing but a poor bum who became a bully in school and even got into fights. She became known locally as a devious girl who’d do the most obnoxious things!”
“According to what I know of Ms. Collins, she was accepted into a very prestigious university last year based on her good grades. It’s the same uni you’re in, too,” Darrell replied.
Sonia grew even more furious. “Who’s to say whether Valerie’s grades were falsified or not? She might’ve even seduced the lecturers there with her looks and body, using sex in exchange
for enrollment!”
“That’s enough, Sonia!” Lucius snapped. He never liked interfering in arguments between women, but he was currently making yet another exception for Valerie.
Lucius‘ fierce tone seemed to break the talisman’s hold over Sonia, whose reasoning soon returned. She flinched in shock, only now realizing how terrible a mistake she’d made in a fit
of rage.
“M–Mr. White, I only said all those foolish, nonsensical things because I was so overwhelmed with jealousy,” Sonia stammered out.
Each guest present on the cruise ship was a highly influential and wealthy person. All of them were amongst society’s elite. Sonia shouldn’t have tried getting back at Valerie right now when she was surrounded by these people.
What had happened to Sonia earlier? Why had she blurted out all those stupid things? She
must be out of her mind!
Valerie cocked an eyebrow, amused. Lucius really was a unique man, being able to unknowingly break the talisman she’d placed on Sonia earlier.
Magnus hadn’t bound Valerie to Lucius in marriage in order to quell her powers, had he?
At that moment, Sonia decided to resort to waterworks to turn the tide that was currently
against her. Her face was a mess of tears as she sobbed.
“I only made such a terrible mistake because I felt so wounded. I’m your companion tonight, Mr. White, yet Valerie keeps on one–upping me. I’m really sorry that you all had to see this.”
Young women always had the advantage of making men soften up the moment they shed

tears. Many of the guests who watched the scene unfold soon pitied Sonia as they watched her
sob.
Additionally, this was nothing but a squabble between women. So, there was no need to deliver any verdict of sorts to settle the dispute.
Sonia even sincerely apologized to Valerie to save some of her pride. If Valerie didn’t accept Sonia’s apology in front of everyone here, she’d be seen as the cruel antagonist here.
Valerie figured that she should let Sonia off the hook for now since she had already
embarrassed herself so thoroughly in front of everyone. Valerie had far more important things to do, after all.
Once things calmed down, the auction’s piece de resistance was revealed. It was the prototype that Valerie had longed to get her hands on all this time.
