Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 180

Giselle had no idea how long it had been until she noticed Donovan's heartbeat growing faint. Although he was slumped against the wall, he was still holding her close.

At some point, he had even taken off his shirt and wrapped it around her. His warmth was the only reason she hadn't blacked out yet, though she could barely move.

When she looked up, his eyes were shut, and his breathing was shallow. Frost had settled on his handsome features. He was so still that he resembled a statue.

"Donovan?" Giselle called out meekly.

She tried to shake him, but she had no strength. She began to panic, calling out to him anxiously, "Donovan, wake up! Don't fall asleep! Can you hear me? Donovan, wake up!"

She called out repeatedly but received no response from him. His arms loosened, and his heartbeat was barely there. A wave of despair crashed over her.

"Don't die," she sobbed with tears streaming down her face. She reached out to touch his chin with trembling fingers. "Please don't die… I'm begging you… If you die, what's the point of me staying alive?"

As the cold sank deeper into her bones, she knew she couldn't last the night either. It was just a question of which of them would die first. Her head was foggy, her body was numb, and all she could do was cry quietly in his arms.

Time dragged in the freezing space. As her temperature dropped, her mind began to fade. She could no longer think, move, or remember the people and events in her life. She couldn't even remember how she ended up in the cold storage room in the first place.

Just as she drifted toward unconsciousness, her body numb and frozen, the cold no longer registering, the cold storage door suddenly opened.
