Throwing that much money at her all of a sudden was just Donovan's way of making the end of their relationship look a little more dignified. It was a way to keep Giselle from hating him too much.

He just wanted to buy silence—to buy a clean exit. He wanted to escape, once and for all.

Donovan left Giselle with a farewell, then turned and walked straight to the door without looking back. There wasn't even a hint of hesitation, just like how he handled things at work.

Watching his cold and distant back, Giselle felt a sharp, dull ache in her chest. Unable to stop herself, she grabbed the glass ashtray on the coffee table and hurled it at him with full force.

It hit him square in the back. The pain was real. But even then, he didn't look back. He opened the door and walked away.

She stood there, staring blankly at the doorway where he had disappeared.

And then, after a long pause, she slammed the door shut and collapsed onto the couch. Her emotions hit rock bottom in an instant.

She glanced at the stack of bank cards and property deeds on the table. Not even a flicker of excitement stirred in her. Instead, there was a crushing sense of disillusionment and a suffocating weight pressing down on her chest.

So, all this time, despite how long they'd been apart, some part of her had still been holding onto a sliver of hope.

And now, his solution was still the same—avoidance. Only this time, he was running further and faster than ever before.

Now she knew there was truly nothing left between them.

She didn't sleep a wink that night. She thought about everything. And finally, she came to a decision. She was done. She wasn't going to keep torturing herself.
