Donovan's patience snapped.
"I said the engagement is off. Do you not understand plain words?" His voice was as cold as ice as he spoke to Dorothea. "Don't ever bring up marriage to me again. Anyone who does will see me leave the country for good and never come back."
Dorothea's hands trembled with rage. "Have you lost your mind? All this over some little temptress? For the past half year, who have you been punishing with that sour face every day?"
Grace tried to calm her while turning to Donovan. "Don, Mom's getting older and her health isn't great. Don't say things that will upset her. If you didn't want to get married, why let Anne get pregnant? Just make it official. You don't have to lift a finger. Just leave all the wedding details to me.
"Mom, enough," Zachary cut in coldly, unable to listen any longer. "If Uncle Don says he doesn't want to marry, then stop pushing him. If you really want him married, go convince Giselle to come back."
"Get out!" Donovan didn't want to hear a single word related to Giselle. Right now, he craved silence more than anything. He could almost picture himself buying a ticket to some deserted island to live out the rest of his days.
The dangerous set of his face was enough to send the others out of the room, leaving him in peace.
He leaned back against the bed, closed his eyes, and let the chaos in his mind churn.
He'd thought giving her that massive sum would free him, letting the relationship end with a semblance of dignity. But now, learning she was about to marry someone else, he realized he'd only backed himself into another dead end with no way out.
Meanwhile, after transferring the funds to Gideon's account, Giselle went with him back to his company.
His primary business was running a large-scale online gaming company. The pace was fast and the workload heavy, but he was a technical powerhouse with exceptional efficiency. He wasn't shy about paying top dollar to recruit the best in the industry, so unlike other internet CEOs who wore themselves out micromanaging, he often had stretches of genuine downtime.
With Giselle's injection of capital, he could now enter talks with Titania Group's board about a major financing deal. Should the equity acquisition go through, his net worth would double.
