Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 236

Panic surged through Anne when she felt Donovan's burning forehead. She tried to rouse him, to rush him to the hospital. "Don!" she called out urgently.

In the end, he was jolted awake by the nightmare. He cracked his eyes open, took in Anne's face, and felt his headache worsen. "Get lost! Right now!" he barked.

Anne felt a chill run from her scalp to her toes. Staring at him dumbfoundedly, she explained, "Don, I just wanted—"

"Didn't you hear me? Get out!" He felt as if his head was about to split open, his whole body chilled to the bone. He yanked the blanket over his head, shutting her out completely.

Faced with the scene before her, she was at a loss for words. Anne didn't dare touch him again, and, in the end, she could only slip out of the room, telling Adrian to make sure Donovan was taken to the hospital for his fever.

Her eyes stung as she walked downstairs and dragged herself back into her car. The words he had cried out in his sleep kept echoing in her mind, making her chest ache.

Anne was no fool, nor could she lie to herself. She could see it clearly; Donovan's feelings for Giselle were far too deep, far beyond what she'd imagined.

She wasn't even sure she could compete with someone who was already gone. However, she only allowed herself to sulk for four or five minutes before pulling herself together and shoving all those negative thoughts aside.

After all, Giselle was gone, forever buried in that river, and could no longer be an obstacle to her marriage. Anne felt there was no point in being upset anymore. In time, Donovan would pull himself out of this darkness, let go of the past, marry her, and eventually forget that woman.
