Breaking Mr. Cold (Giselle and Donovan) novel Chapter 254

After making up her mind, Giselle was about to rush toward the two police officers for help when Orin finished his call and turned around. She had barely taken two steps when he walked past her and greeted the officers in Mali.

The officers looked up, recognized him, and, to her surprise, broke into smiles, waving at him. Orin walked right up to them and offered each of them a cigarette before throwing an arm around one of their shoulders and casually chatting with them. From the way they acted, it seemed more than just acquaintances.

Giselle froze when she witnessed this scene. It was obvious that the cops here were nothing more than decoration, already working hand in hand with men like Orin, all tied together by the same chain of interests.

If she had gone running over to them for help, she wouldn't just have failed; she would've blown her cover, and Orin would've shot her there and then. The realization made her break out in a cold sweat. It was a good thing she had stopped dead in her tracks.

It wasn't just the cops; chances were the local government knew all about these shady networks, too. They simply turned a blind eye, seeing no reason to crack down on something that lined their pockets.

Giselle drew in a shaky breath, a chill running down her spine. No wonder Orin wasn't worried about her escaping. Everyone here was on his side.

After chatting with the officers, Orin came back and led her to a nearby hospital.

The county hospital wasn't much, but it was still far better than the infirmary in the building where she'd been held. At least it looked proper, with all the basic facilities.
