When Gideon finally picked up, there was only silence on the other end. After a few seconds, he asked in a low voice, "Who's this?"

Giselle was already tired of having to explain herself to everyone. "It's me, Giselle. I'm back. Where are you?"

Another pause. She could clearly hear his quick, uneven breathing.

"Is this some kind of joke?" He obviously recognized her voice, but at first he refused to believe it, thinking he was hearing things. "Who is this, really?"

Vivienne, catching the doubt in his tone, snatched the phone and put it on speaker. "Mr. Grayson, I'm at Giselle's place right now. She's really alive and back home safe. You need to get back to the country immediately!"

Gideon was silent again, his voice breaking when he finally spoke. "Really?"

"Of course it's real! I'll send you a picture right now," Vivienne said.

She snapped a casual shot of Giselle with her own phone and sent it to his WhatsApp.

When Gideon saw the picture, there was no immediate reply. It took him two or three minutes before his trembling voice came through the line. "Wait for me. I'm coming back right now."

After the call ended, Vivienne turned to Giselle with a sigh. "While you were gone, Gideon was a wreck. Always drinking himself stupid in bars, shouting your name like a madman."

"You were with him every day? How could you even know he was calling my name?" Giselle asked dryly.
