After Gideon had left, Giselle lay on her couch and mindlessly scrolled through her phone. She thought that she'd be able to calm herself down by doing so, but she wasn't paying attention to the videos she was watching at all. Instead, she kept thinking about what Gideon had said.

She felt terrible. She had planned on using him in the very beginning. But afterward, she actually wanted to marry him and spend the rest of her life with him.

However, due to the predicament they were in, she felt like ending her relationship with him was the best solution they could come up with.

For the next couple of days, she didn't hear from Gideon at all. Naturally, she didn't realize that Donovan had already blocked his number on her phone. As a result, she merely assumed that Gideon had accepted things for what they were.

The days felt like a blur to her. She wasn't in the mood to drop by the clinic. So, she only replied to her supervisor's messages on her phone. She spent the majority of her time processing her emotions at home.

One afternoon, she was just about to order takeout for lunch when she heard her bedroom door open. When she glanced toward the door, she saw Donovan walk into the room with Joanne trailing behind him.

Joanne was holding a basket full of vegetables that she'd bought from the supermarket.

"Hello, Ms. Holt. Mr. Kane has instructed me to work at your house from today onward," she said politely. "I'm assuming you haven't had lunch? I'll head to the kitchen and cook for you immediately. Please don't hesitate to call me if you need anything!"

Upon seeing how enthusiastic Joanne was, Giselle didn't have the heart to turn her down.

"Don't you think you're being rude and disrespectful? How could you arrange for her to work at my place without asking me about it?" She glared at Donovan.

"Everything I do is for your own good," the latter said nonchalantly.

"I don't need this!" she exclaimed. "I don't wish to repeat myself, Donovan. If you want to save yourself some dignity, then stop meddling in my life!"
