"Are you done?" Donovan spat coldly. "If you have nothing else to say, then hurry up and leave. From now on, you're not allowed to come near me without my explicit permission."
He continued, "Don't show up at my house or my office. Let's never contact each other ever again. You and I are through."
When Anne saw how cold and indifferent he was, she felt her blood run cold. It was evident that her relationship with him was over. She knew that there was nothing she could do to win him back. At this point, it was no longer possible for her to become Mrs. Kane.
When the crushing truth hit her, tears began to stream down her face. Yet, she couldn't bring herself to wipe them away.
Sobbing uncontrollably, she stared at Donovan's cold expression. She felt heartbroken as she glanced at the man she had had an unrequited crush on for the longest time. She felt outraged, but there was also nothing she could do about the situation.
Ultimately, she let out a pained sob before turning around and running out of the room.
As she rushed out of the door, she ran straight into another man. The man she'd collided with turned out to be Zachary.
"Sorry," she apologized curtly before dashing down the stairs with tears in her eyes.
Then, she ran out of the house in a dazed state.
Zachary had dropped by to talk to Donovan. When he heard a commotion, he headed upstairs to take a look at what was going on.
He didn't expect to see and hear Anne crying hysterically through the half-opened door. He was quietly listening in on their conversation on the other side of the door when Anne rushed out of the room and bumped into him.
When he leaned against the railing to take another look at her, he found that she'd already sped off in her car.
