As Giselle thought back on everything, she began to wonder if she had been too cold and unfeeling.
By the early afternoon, around 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm, she finally drove to Torgal Hospital.
After she arrived at the hospital, she called Tony. He told her that Donovan had been transferred to a regular ward the day before.
His condition was stable, but he would need at least a month of hospitalization to recover fully.
The news left Giselle conflicted.
Her guilt had faded when she thought Donovan might die, but now that she knew that he would survive. That made her feel conflicted all over again.
Following Tony's directions, she made her way to the third floor and stopped outside the VIP suite. Without knocking, she pushed open the slightly ajar door.
The room was bright and spacious. Giselle passed through a family lounge before finally stepping into the bedroom.
There Donovan was, propped up against the headboard with a tablet in hand, reviewing work documents. When he looked up and saw her, the dullness in his eyes flickered with light.
For a long moment, they simply stared at each other. Both looked strangely lost, as if they didn't recognize one another.
Then, regaining himself, Donovan reached a hand toward her and said, "Come here."
Giselle took a deep breath to steady herself. Then, she walked to the side of his bed.
But instead of taking his hand, she looked at him coolly and said, "You asked me to come see you, so I'm here now. I've seen you. Can I leave?"
Donovan had expected her indifference, but it still cut deep. Weak as he was, he only looked at her for a moment before replying quietly, "Alright. Go."
