Chapter 49
Donovan sat in his leather chair, locked in a video conference with his international clients on his tablet. He spoke fluently in a foreign language.
When Giselle appeared at the door, it was as if he had expected her all along. He showed no reaction–his gaze remained fixed on the screen as he listened to his clients, completely ignoring her presence.
Unfazed, Giselle strolled into the office as though she owned the place. With confidence, she approached him, perched herself on the armrest of his chair, and leaned in intimately. Glancing at the video conference, she asked softly, “What are you working on?”
The foreign clients immediately noticed the stunning woman who had appeared beside Donovan. Their attention shifted from business to curiosity, and they smiled as they asked if she was Donovan’s girlfriend,
Donovan remained aloof. He didn’t shove her away immediately, preferring to let the meeting continue. But Giselle pushed her luck–her teasing touches ignoring the presence of the others on the video call. Donovan’s composure began to crack
Unable to tolerate her antics any longer, he abruptly ended the video conference. The moment the screen went dark, he shoved Giselle off the armrest roughly and without a word. His force was brutal.
Luckily, the thick carpet cushioned her fall, Though it stung, Giselle wasn’t hurt.
She knew she had provoked him first and had no intention of blaming him for his reaction. Instead, she stood up gracefully, brushing herself off as if nothing had happened. She believed herself strong enough to handle such things.
Donovan, stili, silent and seething, pulled open his drawer and took out a cigarette and a lighter. He lit one and took a long drag, the imitation visible on his face.
Without asking, Giselle snatched a cigarette from his pack, but not the lighter. Instead, she leaned in close, lighting her own cigarette from the burning tip of his.
Their eyes met–close and intense. Donovan was caught off guard by the sight of her beautiful face so neat. For a moment, his breath hitched, and the memory of shoving her moments ago seemed to fade.
