She was not sure of what Sierra had told Milton followingly. However, in the next second, she heard a loud bang sound which was followed by momentary silence after it.
Just as Amelia was in the midst of confusion, Sierra began to speak over the phone, "Um... Amelia.
Milton said that he isn't feeling well today. But you don't have to worry. He said that he will call you back after his sleep."
It was not hard to tell from Sierra's hesitation that Milton's illness was just an excuse to cover up for Milton. The truth was that he had refused to talk to her.
Amelia's heart sank at the thought of this. She tried to ease it off, "Alright then, Sierra. Since Milton is feeling under the weather, it'd be better for him to rest for now. Please ask him to call me back when he's feeling much better. Otherwise, I'll be worried of him."
"No problem." Sierra exclaimed all of a sudden, "Eh, hold on! He's coming out again!"
Amelia immediately straightened herself upon hearing this, "Please pass the phone to him, Sierra. Let me talk to him!"
It was another momentary silence before Sierra spoke again, "Eh, he had already closed the door. But he got a message for you."
It seemed like Sierra was longer keen to cover up for Milton.
Amelia asked, "Sierra, what message is that?"
"He asked you to come here so that you can talk to him in person. What's going on between the two of you? Had you two entered a fight?" Sierra asked concerningly.
Amelia brushed it off casually, "Sierra, you don't have to be worried. We had some arguments that's all. It's not unusual between us. Well, I'll come over tomorrow after work."
Sierra could not help grumbling, "Milton still haven't learn to act like a grown-up. Why must he waste his time on sulking with you? After all, it's not that he can come back here often."
Amelia immediately explained, "Sierra, this has nothing to do with him. It's my fault after all. I might have offended him due to miscommunication. I'll explain to you myself tomorrow when I'm there."
Her last sentence was meant to comfort Sierra. In fact, she had not planned to tell her the truth.
Sierra replied, "Well, please stay for dinner tomorrow before you return to Land of Fragrance. Milton can
drive you back if it's too late."
Amelia broke into a cold sweat upon hearing this. She could not picture what would happen had Patrick caught Milton driving her home.
In the evening.
Amelia had contemplated that Kaiden would be the one who broke the silence first.
However, it was totally beyond her expectation that Kaiden would show up at the entrance of Apex Construction Corporation after work.
After all, it was not that he had never entered into her office as he wished all the time before.
Kaiden was initially sitting in his luxurious car. As soon as he saw Amelia coming out of the building, he immediately got down from his car and showed himself up in sunglasses.
It was apparent that Amelia had recognized him as soon as she saw him. Hence, he decided not to beat around the bush. He shouted, "Eh, woman, get into my car now!"
Amelia looked at him in puzzlement, "It's already outside of business hour, Mr. Wright. I guess you're just passing by, am I right?"
"No, I'm here looking for you!" As soon as he finished his words, Kaiden could tell that there were several employees who began to glance in their direction. He urged again impatiently, "I ask you to get into the car now, do you hear me?"
Amelia replied leisurely, "The way you're talking to me right now makes me wonder if I'm threatened by a gangster."
"No! I'm sure that they are gossiping about me! It's definitely about the incident when I was being carried downstairs..." With that said, Kaiden's expression was already painted with agony.
Amelia began to convince that this incident had been having such a great impact on Kaiden. This suggested that not only had he suffered from phobia towards women, he was at the same time a narcissist.
Upon deliberating, Amelia said, "Have you ever thought that I might be the one that they gossip about? It just happened that you were standing next to me. That's why it gives you such an illusion that they were staring at you."
Kaiden roared, "Why must they be gossiping about you? You're just an old and ugly woman!"
Amelia struggled to contain herself from the impulse of hitting him. She tried to calm herself down and said, "The truth is they like to gossip anything that has to do with me."
Kaiden said disdainfully, "Who do you think you are?!"
This time, Amelia decided to fire back, "I'm their boss after all. What do you think?"
Startling, Kaiden retorted, "But you're not any better looking than me."
It turned out that this was what mattered to him the most.
Amelia clenched her fists and relaxed them again. After repeating this series of movements several times, she began speaking, "Why would they stare at you when they could actually stare at their boss? I bet most of my employees don't even know who you are!"
Kaiden was no doubt triggered by her words, "How is it possible?!" After all, he was pretty confident with his charm and appearance.
Squinting, Amelia said, "Why don't you get out of the car now and ask any person at random. You will know then whether he knows you or not."
"Good idea!" With that said, Kaiden opened the door and got out of the car in an attempt to execute her idea. Amelia was left dumbfounded at the sight of this.
