Ashley was never a keen learner at school. However, upon hearing the question from Gramps Hopper, she hurriedly answered before Andrew could respond to gramps. She replied earnestly, "We're both hardworking in our studies! Even our school teachers had complimented us in class!"
Although Andrew said nothing to retort his sister, he could not help rolling his eyes secretly. After all, he knew better than anyone else that Ashley was a problematic student who had always been punished by their teachers during class.
"Oh? Then why I heard from your grandmother that she get you a home tutor earlier?" It turned out that Gramps Hopper was not a person whom Ashley could bluff off easily.
She could not help but glance at Eve dejectedly.
In fact, Ashley was still holding a grudge against Eve for kicking Rick last Christmas.
Since she was the one who told Gramps Hopper that she had gotten them a home tutor, Ashley could not help but dislike her even more.
"Ashley, your great-grandfather is talking to you. Why are you looking at me?" There was no doubt that Eve had not understood the message hidden beneath Ashley's stare. To make the situation worse, Eve had thrown the question back at her.
At this moment, Ashley completely despised her grandmother. However, she was also aware that she was no one but the youngest in The Hopper Family who did not have a say at everything. If she was rude towards Eve, it would end up very bad for herself. Or even worse, she might as well embarrass her mother in front of everyone.
Upon some deliberation, Ashley looked at Gramps Hopper again with an adorable smile on her face, "It's true that granny had gotten us a home tutor some time ago. But didn't she tell you that the home tutor had already been fired?"
Hearing this, Eve hurriedly explained, "Dad, after I employed the home tutor, I soon found out evidence that she had misbehaved. That was why I decided to terminate her contract."
Initially, Eve was not going to tell
Gramps Hopper about the termination of contract of the home tutor that she had employed for the kids. Had he known of the truth, there was no doubt that he would have blamed her for hiring a frivolous person as the home tutor for the kids.
After all, everyone in The Hopper Family was
particularly sensitive when it came to the occupation of teacher ever since the affair between Sissi and Patrick had occurred.
As expected, as soon as Gramps Hopper learned of the fact that the home tutor had misbehaved, he could not help scolding Eve, "How did you end up choosing her as your candidate for the position of a home tutor in the very first place? Don't you know that misbehavior of a teacher can leave an adverse impact on the kids?"
Upon hearing his words, everyone could not help but recall the affair between Patrick and Sissi.
Patrick was still a high school student when he began a romantic relationship with Sissi.
Precisely speaking, it was undeniable that Sissi was much older than Patrick at the time and she had brought out the worst of him.
Even so, Amelia thought that Patrick was still madly in love with her until this moment.
At the thought of this, Amelia's gaze darkened before she hurriedly glanced away in disguise of her discomfort.
"I'm sorry, dad..." One seemingly harmless sentence from Ashley had caused Eve to beg for
Gramps Hopper's forgiveness for her mistake.
Seeing this, a victorious smile gradually crept onto
Ashley's face.
Andrew, who caught her smile could not help feeling terrified at his sister's revenge on Eve.
Gramps Hopper did not give Eve a long-winded lecture on her mistake.
After all, the youngsters were still around at the hall. He could not possibly tarnish the due respect that those youngsters were supposed to give her.
Gramps Hopper cleared his throat before he spoke again to the youngsters who were still standing in front of him with his expression solemn, "Why are you all standing? Come over and sit down."
Patrick was the first one who moved his feet. He began to walk towards the couch which was the furthest away from Gramps Hopper before he sat down casually.
The truth was, he had no idea regarding Florence's whereabouts as she had not picked up his call nor replied to his text. As time passed by, Howard could not help feeling anxious at her absence during such an important family gathering.
Upon hearing the explanation from his son, Gramps Hopper's tensed expression began to relax a little.
For as much as he could recall, Florence was rather dull and aimless as compared to both of her brothers who were equally successfully in their respective careers. Nonetheless, he had to admit that she was the most thoughtful one among all his grandchildren.
For instance, Florence would make sure that she called and had a brief catch-up with them during every festive event. In addition, she would pay them a visit whenever she took a flight from Northville to Dallas for work.
Besides, Florence was an outgoing person who was good at entertaining the old folks. Hence, the excuse that Howard had made up for Florence had not raised any suspicion from Gramps Hopper.
However, as soon as he caught a glimpse of Patrick who was sitting on the couch at ease,
Gramps Hopper's mood was brought down altogether.
In the past few years, Patrick barely called or texted them, let alone pay them a visit at Dallas.
Just as Gramps Hopper was about to scold Patrick, Owen hurriedly spoke as soon as he came to notice that Gramps Hopper's expression had darkened upon looking at Patrick, "Nora! Didn't we buy granny and gramps some supplements that can help to promote sleep quality? I'm not sure if I brought them down from the car. Do you remember where are they now?"
Nora immediately replied tacitly, "Don't worry, I have brought them along with me."
Owen and Nora thought that this would help Patrick in escaping the question from Gramps Hopper.
Unfortunately, it turned out that they had worsen the situation for him instead.
There was one saying which stated that there would be no harm as long as there was no comparison. Upon seeing the supplements handed to him by Nora along with the update by Howard that Florence was out picking a gift for him and his wife, he could not help feeling sorrowful when his gaze fell back onto Patrick again.
"Patrick, take a look at the filial acts of your brother and sister-in-law as well as your younger sister. How about you?!"
