Benji muttered furrily, "President Ramsay, you're playing with words! While Kaiden and the rest of us are all architects, you only brought him to the Eastern District! To make us feel even worse, you tried to bluff us with a few photos which were taken in blurry shots!"
Amelia explained with great patience, "Mr. Benji, please cool down first. I admit that my shots were not taken professionally, but I can assure you that I had never meant to bluff you!
At the end of the day, I'm the one who's going to benefit from this planning project. Do you honestly think that I'm not taking it seriously?
It was Kaiden's first day of work yesterday. There was no doubt that he had not been fully accepted into the design department. That's why I decided to bring him to the site first.
What's more, I'm aware that it can be quite hard for him to work in a team especially since he had his own way of getting work done. What if you guys end up fighting on the site when your opinions vary? It will look bad on all of you as well as the company.
Well, your team is welcomed to visit the site whenever you want."
Benji could not help feeling ashamed upon hearing her sincere explanation. He hurriedly apologized, "President Ramsay, please forgive me if I sounded rude to you earlier."
Amelia waved her hand in gesture that she did not mind, "No worries."
Followingly, Benji began to grumble, "In fact, the main reason that I'm here is because I find Kaiden's words completely unacceptable!"
"What did he say?"
"He said that the reason that you didn't bring us along to the Eastern District was because you thought that we were shallow and inexperience. Citing his words, we were incapable of taking over such a huge project. Hence, you thought that we were just a burden to you and that it'd be better for you not to bring us."
Upon hearing this, Amelia could feel the corner of her mouth twitching. She retorted, "This is nonsense! Well, we all know that Kaiden has already been regarded as an accomplished architect at his young age. It does not surprise me that he can be arrogant and reckless sometimes.
Mr. Benji, I'm well assured that you all are older and no doubt wiser than him. Meanwhile, Kaiden is young and inexperienced. Please forgive him if he ever offends and comes into your way. After all, he's someone appointed by Fred Gorden into Apex Construction Corporation."
Upon knowing Kaiden's appointment by Fred, the color of Benji's expression faded as he stammered, "Initially, I was wondering why would you seem to be overprotective towards him. It makes sense to me now after knowing that Fred had pulled a string for him..."
Benji's last sentence was almost inaudible to Amelia. It was not hard to tell that Benji was much in awe of the status and influence of Fred.
Amelia could tell from his expression that he was suppressing his jealousy. At the sight of this, she pursed her lips and smiled before she tried to keep her voice steadily calm, "Putting aside his age and sharp tongue, you might get to discover his talent overtime."
"I'll try my best!" Benji promised reluctantly before he added, "Speaking of talent and ability, Daniel is the only person in the design department that earns my respect so far..."
With her pupils dilated in anger, Amelia could not help slamming her desk before she snapped, "Someone who almost brought down the whole company deserves your respect? Are you mad now? Let me remind you again that Daniel and I are rivals who cannot coexist in this company. I can pretend as if you make no mention of him earlier, but if you ever bring his name up in front of me again, I'll kick you out from the company right away! I don't care if you're a senior to the company!"
Benji was no doubt taken aback by shock of her anger outburst all in a sudden. So far as he could recall, Amelia had always been polite and well-mannered.
"President Ramsay, I..."
"Get out now! I'm not in a mood of talking to you!"
Benji had no other choice but to excuse himself.
In contrast of the way he entered into her office with his head help up high, Benji had been keeping his head down when he fled from the scene.
As soon as he left, Audrey came into her office with a glass of water.
Amelia was yet to recover from her furry. She reached out to the glass of water that Audrey had brought to her front before she finished it in one gulp.
Audrey looked at her as she asked concerningly, "President Ramsay, you don't seem alright to me now."
"I'm fine. Do I have any other appointments with clients later?" "Yes, you are scheduled to meet Mr. Zouch in an hour." "Is he the one that offered to supply us with free building material?"
"Alright."
After making a call, Amelia began waiting patiently. She had another forty minutes left before meeting Wayion which was more than enough for her to trick Kaiden into telling her more about this person.
Knock... Knock...Knock...
Just as she was sinking in her own thought, Amelia heard door-knocking.
Amelia said, "Please come in."
As soon as the door was opened, Kaiden began to speak casually, "Why did you call me here?"
Grinning, Amelia waved him over and said, "Of course I have something good for you. Come over here and take your seat."
Despite staring at Amelia suspiciously, Kaiden took a seat before he asked, "Something good for me?"
"So it turns out that the planning project in Eastern district will require supply of an enormous amount of building materials. I trust that your circle is much wider than mine. Do you know anyone who may be the best candidate that I can look for or do you have any better suggestions?"
The excitement on Kaiden's face began to fade. He could not help but grumble, "Is this what you called as something good for me? You don't have to beat around the bush. Instead, you can tell me in my face that you need me here to work for you."
Amelia remained expressionlessly as she contended, "I'm calling you over to have a word with you during work hours. Since you can temporarily escape from your work as long as I keep you here, don't you think it's something good for you?"
Kaiden was clearly unmoved by her enthusiasm. He replied, "I thought that Wayion had brought along his proposal and contract to you before. You have not entered into a contract with him, have you?"
Amelia could not help feeling alarmed upon seeing that Kaiden had mentioned Wayion without hesitation. In fact, he sounded as if he as close to this guy that Amelia would like to dig into his background. Hence, she sounded uninterested when she said again, "Why must I enter into a contract with him? I don't even know this person at all. I can't probably trust a person whom I know nothing of."
