"I will." With one of her hands holding the box warily, she reached out with another hand to push the red button at the center of the box. In the next second, the box uncovered itself and revealed the content in it.
Amelia closed the box carefully after making sure that it contained the dose that her father needed. Feeling delighted that she had gotten the sedative in her hand, she glanced up at Patrick and said, "I remember you told me that you had an appointment later. It'd be better for me not to take up your time any longer. Goodbye."
It seemed to Patrick that she was desperate to leave after getting what she wanted. In fact, he was annoyed by her indifferent attitude towards him. He had to admit that he was swept away by an indescribable feeling at the sight of her running towards his car earlier.
As soon as she appeared within his sight, he was consumed by the flashback of memories of them when they used to be together. However, it was at this moment that Amelia had indirectly reminded him that he was no more than a delivery man who got her the sedative that her father needed.
Besides, he could not help feeling depressed whenever he thought of the date that he was scheduled to attend later the night. That was why his expression was darkened all this while.
His silence had led Amelia into believing that he was in a hurry to attend to his appointment. She added, "I shall leave then."
With both her hands that were carrying the box as if it was the priceless piece of treasure, she turned around and was about to leave after after she bid farewell to Patrick.
Patrick squinted coldly with the sight that appeared in front of him. In the next second, he reached his hand out from the window and grabbed her arms. Before Amelia could process what had happened, she had already been pulled back to his territory ruthlessly.
"Ah!" Amelia was panicked as she turned around to look at Patrick. Tightening the grips on the box, she asked defensively, "What are you up to again?"
Patrick shot a glance at her before he asked frivolously, "Do you know where to wait for me this Friday night?"
Amelia could not help feeling humiliated by his question. Hence, she replied expressionlessly, "I'm well aware of the deal between us. You don't have to remind me. Can you let go of me now?"
Grabbing her slender arm still, Patrick questioned with his tone icy cold, "I'm the one who had an appointment. Why do I feel like you're even more anxious to leave than I am?"
It bothered Patrick that Amelia was willing to spend time with any other men but him.
It was Amelia's reply that had pulled Patrick away from his mind. She interrupted, "You're not the only one who's having an appointment tonight. I have an appointment to attend too. Hence, it'd better if we don't take up each other's time."
The truth was, Amelia was referring to a business appointment that she needed to attend to.
However, it seemed like Patrick had misunderstood it as a romantic date with other men. He began mocking her mercilessly, "Oh really? Can I understand it as those men around you can no longer fit your vulgar taste? Is it true that this is why you're desperate to explore more options out there?"
Amelia could tell from his mockery that he was insulting her taste in men.
Instead of getting triggered, she fired back as she smiled, "Mr. Hopper, have you forgotten that you're also one of them too?"
At the sight of his darkening expression, the sarcasm at the corners of her lips was getting
apparent.
"Hmph, what a smart mouth!"
Amelia flashed a bright smile at him before she said, "That's why it'd be better for you to let go of me now before I come up with anything worse than this."
As Patrick drove his car away, Amelia thought that it would be safer if the box were to be kept in her handbag. After she had done so, she could not help patting her handbag in relief before she headed towards the carpark.
"President Ramsay, you're here."
Out of courtesy, Amelia acknowledged Audrey's greeting, "Hi there."
"President Ramsay, this way please."
"Alright, Uncle Tucker."
Jonathan and Audrey could be seen waiting for Amelia's arrival. Upon showing up, she did not hesitate to get into Jonathan's MPV so that they could head for the scheduled appointment.
Not long after they departed, Amelia received an incoming call from Gramps.
She picked up the call and soon realized that Gramps made no mention to what had happened earlier today.
Amelia was well aware that Brittany was the person at fault after all. Hence, she knew that it was inappropriate for her to ever bring up the incident when Alice fainted, let alone demanding for a say from Gramps.
"It's like asking the obvious." Not wanting to leave Gramps any chances to pull a string, Amelia took a brief pause before she said, "That's
enough, Grandpa. Do you have anything else that you want to tell me?"
Gramps took a momentary silence before he spoke, "I do. But I doubt if it's in your best interest to know or not. If you insist, I can tell you too. So, my question is, do you want to know about it?"
His long-winded explanation added more confusion for Amelia than for the sake of clarification.
Amelia struggled to find the most appropriate reaction for his speech. She had no other choice but to say, "Grandpa, it's okay. You can tell me anything."
Hence, Gramps raised his voice as he announced, "I've set up a blind date for Patrick!"
Amelia was startled by the news.
Before Amelia could react, Gramps added, "It's going to happen tonight!"
The blood began to drain from her face which left her as pale as a sheet.
She could barely hear what Gramps got to tell her followingly. Even so, what she perceived was that the girl that Patrick was meeting later at night was the youngest daughter of the mayor. She had recently graduated from a prestigious university at overseas before she returned to help her father.
Amelia struggled to bring herself into replying, "Oh really? The qualities that she possesses are indeed impressive. I should have sent my congratulations."
Gramps asked, "Who do you wish to congratulate?"
Amelia murmured as she parted her lips, "I would like to congratulate Patrick. I'm really happy for him as a sister."
Gramps was satisfied with her answer. He continued saying, "I should have let you follow him tonight since you're his sister. But having in mind that the situation that both of you are stuck in, I think.."
Amelia shut her eyes close before she replied, "It'd be better for me not to go and mess it up."
