Patrick and Eve were sat together in a private booth in a five-star hotel.
Kayla Elliott, the youngest daughter of the mayor, could be seen sitting across the round dining table. She was Patrick's blind date tonight.
Since Eve was representing the Hopper Family to set up this dinner, she was obliged to send her warm regards. "Kayla, you've been staying abroad for some time. Let me know what you think of these local signature dishes."
Eve thought of asking Howard to accompany her tonight as his presence might cave in an impression that the Hopper Family had been taking the meet-up this time seriously. However, Howard had turned her down sternly and left her with no room for negotiation. After all, it was just a couple of days time since Patrick and Amelia had entered into a divorce. Not only he felt that the blind date tonight was a huge disrespect towards Amelia, it might as well tarnish Patrick's reputation.
Eve did not bother to argue with him. After all, it was not her intention to set up the blind date. If Howard were to contend about it, he should
rightfully stand up against Gramps and not her!
Anyhow, Eve struggled to reason the motive of Gramps for setting up the blind date for Patrick in a hurry.
As far as she could recall, Amelia was seemingly likeable in the eyes of Gramps. The fact that he had beaten Patrick up for Amelia before their divorce was probably the best supporting evidence.
That was why it did not make sense to Eve that Gramps had begun to look for a new partner for Patrick in a couple of days time.
Upon deliberation, Eve began to wonder if it was because Gramps was hoping for another greatgrandchild. After all, he was aging and his health condition was deteriorating over time. The only way to accomplish his dream was to look for a new partner for Patrick as soon as possible.
This was probably the only reason that Eve could think of!
However, on a second thought, Eve could not help agonizing over another problem. She was in fear that Gramps might be so blinded by his desperateness in getting a great-grandchild that he had arranged some frivolous women from unknown background for Patrick.
She had only came to know that it was the mayor's youngest daughter that he had arranged for
Patrick's blind date much later. Even so, she was glad to know that her worry all this while was unnecessary.
Since Howard insisted that he would not come along with her, Eve began to look for help from other members of the Hopper Family. She could not possibly turn to Granny since she was never her favorite person in this family. Hence, Eve decided to seek help from Owen and Nora.
The truth was, she had not expected that Owen and his wife would turn her request down over the phone. They claimed that they were caught up in looking after Andrew and Ashley. It was probably the only valid excuse that Eve could never say no to.
The only one that was left in mind was Florence who had to spend most of her time on flights, she was probably the last person who had time to deal with Patrick's marital affair.
At the end of the day, she had to admit that there was no one that she could turn to at the very moment. All that she could rely on was herself!
"Aunt Eve, you must have been putting a great deal of effort to prepare a table of exquisite dishes for us. They are all scrumptious. What do you think, Dad, Mom?" With that said, Kayla glanced at her parents obediently.
Mr. Elliott expressed his gratitude courteously, "Thank you for the dinner tonight. You must have been spending a lot for this."
Meanwhile, Mrs. Elliott glanced at Kayla before she said softly, "Enjoy yourself with the dishes that Mrs. Hopper had prepared for you."
"That's right, Kayla. You're too skinny. You should eat more." Eve sneaked a glance at Patrick in between her words. Ever since they sat down on the dining table, Patrick's silence had driven her into anxiety.
Supposedly she needed not to be afraid of the mayor and his family considering the undue influence and status of the Hopper Family. However, Eve had not forgotten that it was Gramps who had pulled a string this time. If Patrick were to be uncooperative with her tonight, she could foresee that he would end up getting another round of beating from Gramps back at home!
All in a sudden, Eve decided to come out with a white lie, "To be frank with you, Kayla, I'm not the one who had set up the menu for tonight. It was Patrick who dealt with the hotel management himself regarding the table reservation as well as the arrangement of dishes!"
Patrick could not help frowning at Eve's words. Just as he was about to clarify himself, Kayla had
already put down her cutleries before she gave him a shy smile and asked, "Mr. Hopper, is it true?"
"It's true!" Not only did Eve answer her question for him, she had gone further to speak for him, "By the way, you should stop addressing him as Mr.
Kayla gave Mr. Elliott a tiny nod. She then picked up dishes for him as she replied dejectedly, "Got it, Dad."
Patrick pursed his lips expressionlessly. He thought that it would be better to make himself clear from the beginning.
Eve was swept by boiling anger at this moment.
Despite Patrick being extremely unhelpful and uncooperative, the only reason Eve had remained seated at this point was because she was trying to protect Patrick. She did not want to him to suffer any more punishments from Gramps. Otherwise, she would have probably left in fury with her temper.
It was just a matter of words from Gramps to make the mayor lose his job forever!
However, the biggest problem was that it was Gramps himself who had arranged for the blind date today!
In other words, the mayor and his family were the special guests of Gramps. If they were to tell him how Patrick had behaved uncourteously on the table, there was no doubt that Gramps was going to beat him up terribly!
Eve chuckled awkwardly. She got no other choice but to clean up the mess that Patrick had just left, "Um... My son can be an introvert sometimes. Don't take this personally. You'll get to know him better soon."
Unknown to any of them, it happened that Amelia was at the private booth next door. In fact, she was there to attend to an appointment with Mr. Quade.
Mr. Quade had brought two of his sales managers and one finance officer to their appointment. Four grown-up men seated in a way where Amelia and Audrey were in between them. Although they had done nothing offensive so far, it was not hard to tell from their flirtatious eyes what they were up for.
"By the way, we would like to congratulate you that Apex Construction Corporation had successfully taken down the government project! Cheers!"
With that said, Mr. Quade raised his glass to toast a drink with Amelia. Another hand of his seemingly rested at the back of her chair as he stared at her harmless face drunkenly.
He still struggled to believe that she was a b*tch under the disguise of her harmless face. He began to imagine how would she look like if her clothes were to be removed completely. After all, it was rumored that her body was the reason that both Patrick and Sawyer had fallen for her.
