[What businessmen don't need the most is an excessive sense of justice.]
Ever since the divorce, Patrick had identified himself as a businessman. Every benefit that Amelia received from him, she was required to pay it back at the cost of his satisfaction.
However, it was not easy to satisfy Patrick.
Amelia hung her head disappointedly. She had been waiting for a long time without hope.
Kayla could not hold it in anymore, so she said to Patrick, "Patrick, you can't just say that. If you're so willing to fight for President Ramsay, why couldn't you appear in court as her witness as well?"
Patrick glanced at Amelia as if he was looking at a huge inconvenience. "Just to be clear, the person that Mr. Quade is suing isn't me, but her. This proves that he doesn't dare provoke me directly. If that is so, why would I want to get myself into trouble again?"
Amelia's lashes fluttered and she tried her best to not look so passive. "Then, how are you going to explain what happened last night?"
Patrick was taken aback, but he arbitrarily replied,
"That just happened on an impulse."
Amelia stared at him with her beautiful eyes and asked in a heavy voice, "That is to say, if this issue ever happens again, will you choose to be either a bystander or will you choose to leave?"
Patrick's face tightened considerably and he looked slightly upset although he answered Amelia's question with a "yes".
"I don't think so. I believe that Patrick is an upright person. Even if this issue were to repeat a hundred times, he would still make the same choice as he did before."
Kayla appreciatively looked at Patrick as if she was the person who knew him best.
"Ms. Elliott, could you refrain from making a decision without my permission?" Upon hearing this, Patrick's head hurt as he glanced at Kayla whilst she stuck out her tongue playfully at him.
Amelia looked at them and suddenly had an urge that she should get up and leave, but the reality made her persist on. "Can't you reconsider? Then... What about you, Ms. Elliott? Would you be able to testify for me?"
Kayla was slightly stunned whereas Patrick suddenly sneered at Amelia's request, "You really aren't picky at all!"
Amelia pursed her lips and calmly said, "That's right, as long as there is a chance of survival." She could ask for anyone's help.
Patrick was extremely angered by Amelia's attitude. The feeling that he was actually dispensable to her flashed through his mind again!
However, Kayla was indeed one of the witnesses last night. As long as she was willing, Amelia would immediately abandon him and turn to her instead!
D*mn it! Why did he suddenly put himself in such a passive situation? He was obviously in control of the situation before!
"Would you be willing to, Ms. Elliott?" Amelia asked again. Even in a predicament, her voice was still steady without any sense of pressure.
Kayla frowned and thought for a while before finally apologizing, "President Ramsay, I really want to help you, but my parents don't want me to get involved in any trouble as soon as I'm back in the country..."
Ha. Patrick laughed in his heart.
"I understand." Amelia did not say anything more.
It seems that this sense of justice was not only unnecessary for businessmen, but it also extended to the mayor's daughter as well.
Amelia blinked and looked at Kayla and Patrick in front of her and informed, "Then I'll find another way on my own. I won't be a bother to the both of you anymore. Goodbye."
Out of the corner of his eyes, Patrick glanced at the clock which was not far away. It had only been less than 10 minutes since Amelia last came in. He really could not believe that this indomitable woman intended to give up just like this. Or rather, was she eager to have dinner with Shawn instead?
As soon as this idea emerged in his mind, a raging devastation arose in Patrick. He decided that he would not let her meet Shawn at all today, so he immediately ordered, "Hold on!"
Kayla tried to persuade Amelia to stay as well, "President Ramsay, please don't leave in such a hurry. Patrick seems to already have a solution!"
Amelia's movement slowly came to a stop after she stood up. In fact, what she said just now was just an excuse to leave.
She initially thought that Kayla's presence would not affect her much, but she was wrong. Every single time Kayla conversed with Patrick, it was already enough to shake her resolution.
That was why she was in a hurry to leave and find another chance to return tomorrow. However, Patrick's call for her to hold on made her detect a change in his decision. "Mr. Hopper? Did you
change your mind?"
Patrick took a deep look at her and deliberately asked, "Do you really need my help that much?"
"I do." Yet in her heart she thought that if there was anyone else besides Patrick for her to choose, she would definitely not look for him.
"So, I need to help you based on what you said just now. Am I to say that I'm too cheap or do you really not know the ways of the world?" Patrick raised his eyebrows and asked in a flirting tone in with the presence of Kayla.
Amelia felt embarrassed, not because she was shy, but because the reward that she had been able to provide for a long time did not satisfy Patrick at all. He had always insisted for her to use her body to repay him, and this was exactly what she could not do for the time being.
"Have you thought it through? At least, I should be able to see your sincerity behind your request for my help." Patrick felt that his hint was obvious enough, which was that he wanted Amelia to invite him for a meal immediately!
"Alright then." Amelia forcefully squeezed out a smile.
Just as the three of them finished tidying up and were about to depart, Amelia's phone that was located in her bag rang.
Patrick's vision suddenly became sharp as he fixed his eyes on the phone that Amelia had just taken out.
She looked at her phone screen simply whilst her eyes displayed feelings of subtle guilt.
"Please excuse me, I'll have to answer this call first." Without raising her head, Amelia turned around and accepted the call.
"Hello, Shawn."
Even though Amelia took a few steps away and lowered her voice, her greeting to Shawn was like a needle piercing into Patrick's eardrums, and his fists tightened instantly.
"Sorry, I should have called you just now.
Something suddenly came up here, so I won't be able to go to the hospital to visit you..."
Amelia tried her best to explain, and Shawn quickly understood.
Amelia sighed with relief and continued, "By the way, do you still remember the thermal lunchbox I brought for you at noon? The bottom layer contains today's dinner. Please ask Kimberly to heat it up for you, you'll be able to eat after that..."
Patrick felt as if his whole body was being lifted up and handcuffed when he heard Amelia's soft and gentle voice. Even the strands of his hair was almost burning with rage!
If it was in the past, he would have taken her phone without hesitation and fiercely warned the man who coveted her. But, now since they had been divorced, he seemed to lose the right to do so!
"Patrick, that 'Shawn' whom Amelia is talking to couldn't be the Shawn that we talked about just now, right? From her tone, it seems that he's a very important person to her?" Kayla asked in a low voice.
"No, Shawn's just a regular guy!" Patrick argued angrily. Then, he suddenly yelled, "Ms. Elliot! I really can't wait to try the food at Silver Throne!"
Kayla added, "But President Ramsay is still on the phone."
Patrick raised his voice, "Since she's so busy, let her ask someone else for help regarding Mr. Quade's law suit!"
As he had expected, Amelia's shoulder shrugged which showed that she had heard what he said. Patrick did not hesitate in adding a bit of ferociousness, "Let's go, Ms Elliott! I'll take you to Silver Throne!"
