At that moment, Florence gripped her phone with all her strength to the extent that her knuckles turned white. She was overwhelmed by disappointment. At this juncture, Eve was still making up excuses and blaming Patrick instead of confessing to her the truth.
"Florence, are you with me? You're the only one I can turn to now. Ever since both of your brothers got married, they had become unreliable..." In order to beg for sympathy from her youngest daughter, Eve was literally sobbing at the other end of the call.
Florence sighed as she was left in despair of disappointment. Considering her carefree yet stubborn character, she was supposed to confront and expose Eve right away on the call.
However, the truth was the advice from both Patrick and Amelia had left an impact on her. At this juncture, she was stuck in a dilemma. Ultimately, it was her call to decide whether conscience or the bond she shared with her mother shall prevail.
In the ward.
"Let's get you up so that you can eat." With that said, Amelia helped Patrick up gently. She then took a pillow and put it at his back so that he could lean on it comfortably.
Just as Amelia was about to turn around and got him the bowl of soup, all in a sudden, Patrick reached out to hold her hand.
Her gaze fell back at him as she asked concerningly, "Is there something wrong?"
"Oh, no." Patrick shook his head before he continued, "It's just that I feel bad to see you getting caught up over trifles as soon as you got here."
Amelia could not help but chuckle, "You're not being yourself. Weren't you used to command others into working for you? It does not make sense that you're feeling bad for me now."
"That only applies to others. I can never do that to you." Patrick could not help but caress the back of her hand that he was holding.
The truth was he could not bring himself to let go of her hand upon feeling the soft and delicate texture of her skin.
Amelia blushed upon his fluent flirtation. In an attempt to avoid responding to his pickup line, she hurriedly said, "Stop messing around. Come on, it's time to eat. Let go of n me now.
Patrick refused to let go of her hand. Instead, he grunted, "I'm not hungry. Why not you come over and talk to me?"
Amelia wondered if he was in fact fawning on her.
Amelia was left with no choice. She asked, "What do you want me to talk to you about?" Patrick offered her with two options, "You can pick either politics or romance."
"Politics." Amelia chose the first option steadfastly.
Patrick glanced at her as he muttered in regret, "I thought you women are not interested in politics."
"That's true. However, as compared to politics, I'm afraid that I show zero interest in the latter." The truth was she was aware of the repercussion if she were to talk to him about romance. Therefore, she had to remind herself to be prudent.
Patrick was unwilling to cave in at this juncture. He pestered, "Mrs. Hopper, I can always read the latest update on politics from newspapers and TV. It'd be better for us to talk about romance."
Amelia pointed a finger at him warningly, "You'd better don't attempt the risk.
Otherwise, I can't be responsible of the consequences. Don't make me remind you what Paisley had warned us before."
Patrick's expression darkened at lightning speed as soon as he heard her.
Paisley was the one to take the blame. After all, she was the one who told Amelia that Patrick was not supposed to move around during recovery. Since then she had a valid excuse of not making out with him!
At the sight of him sulking, Amelia decided that it would be best to turn a blind eye on his frustration. Thinking that his anger would recede in a while, she picked up the newspapers next to him and began reading it to him.
After some time of reading, she sneaked a glance at Patrick. It was only then she realized that he was still pulling a long face. As she sighed, she put the newspapers aside and asked, "Weren't you the one who said that you wanted to talk about politics?"
Patrick grunted as he looked away, "I've read that newspapers earlier at noon."
Amelia picked up the remote controller and suggested, "Do you want to watch TV?"
"No."
Amelia put down the remote controller. She then picked up the food container and said, "Come eat then."
"I'm not hungry." Patrick was determined to make it clear that he wanted nothing but romance!
"What on earth do you want?" Amelia began to lose her patience. It was at this time when she met with Patrick's sulking gaze.
Amelia asked blatantly, "Oh, do you mean a kiss on the face?"
Patrick demanded, "No, I want you to kiss my lips."
Amelia murmured hesitantly, "But, you just had your dinner. You're going to have a bad breath..."
Patrick wondered if she was implying that he disgusted her.
At the sight of Patrick's darkening expression,
Amelia struggled to hold back her laughter. She compromised, "It's not impossible provided you go and wash up your mouth first."
Patrick was revived with hope again, "I'll go now!"
He was overwhelmed by excitement to the extent that he had completely forgotten his waist injury. In the next second, all Amelia could see was Patrick struggling to get down from the bed. As Amelia watched watched what Patrick was about to do in terror, she hurriedly reached out to hold him, "I'm just kidding! Hurry! Lie down on your bed now!"
He stared at her deeply and murmured, "Dear, stop messing around with me. I swear that I just want to kiss you badly."
Amelia's long lashes trembled a little as she closed her eyes. She whispered, "Kiss me then."
Patrick was immediately drawn by her pouty lips. Even so, it was his nature to make fun of the woman he loved. Instead of kissing her, he teased, "I remember that you complained of my bad breath earlier. Don't you mind now?"
Amelia blushed upon being teased by him.
She could not help but open her eyes and glare at him, "Do you still want your kiss? If not I'm leaving now."
Patrick was still clinging his weight on Amelia after his attempt to get down from his bed. He chuckled crookedly before he lowered his head and kissed her lips.
Amelia had never meant to turn him down. As soon as his lips fell on hers, her body went numb. She could only leave him to conquer her overwhelmingly.
