At the Ramsay Mansion.
"You’re back, Ms. Amelia."
"Mm." Amelia took off her shoes before she glanced at the servant who was standing at the door. She asked, "Who else is home?"
"Madam and Miss Brittany are both at home, Ms. Amelia."
"Oh, have they eaten?"
"No. They haven't."
"That's great. Call me when dinner is ready."
I'm starving.
With that said, she put on her slippers and entered the house.
As soon as Amelia entered, she saw Alice and a couple of ladies having tea at the hall. It seemed as if they were having a great time.
Upon closer inspection, she immediately found out that they were all Alice's close friends. Ever since George fell sick, it has been some time since she last saw them paying a visit to the house.
Alice was sitting with her back facing Amelia when she first came in. That was why Alice had not realized her presence. It was her friend who noticed Amelia. She could not help but acknowledge Amelia's presence warmly, "Hey, Alice. Amelia is back!"
"Ah!" Alice immediately turned around as soon as she was being reminded by her friend. She had not been expecting Amelia at this time. After all, Amelia had told her earlier that she was going to stay over on Land of Fragrance in order to take care of Patrick.
The truth was Amelia did intend to stay at the hospital and take care of Patrick. However, Patrick insisted that she should go back home. There was no way that she could make him compromise on that.
"Aunt Alice, I'm back. Did I disturb you?"
"Certainly no! Come over here, Amelia. We've been talking about you."
Amelia walked over and sat on the couch gracefully. She was outstandingly beautiful even if she was not wearing any make-up. There was no sign suggesting that she was worn out from her broken marriage. The ladies had to admit that they were impressed by Amelia's excellent condition.
At the sight of the ladies glancing at her, Amelia smiled and greeted warmly, "Hi, how are everyone of you?"
"We're doing good!" "It has been some time since I last saw you. Amelia, you're getting prettier!"
Amelia could not help but flush.
Amelia used to dislike them simply because they were Alice's friends. However, things had changed since then. Hence, she replied sweetly, "Thank you. To be honest, I wish I can be like you. You show no signs of aging. When I first entered into the house, I thought that we have some young pretty guests for today."
"I'm flattered!"
"Look! Amelia always knows of a way to make us happy! I can't help but think of my useless son! How much I wish he can at least learn from Amelia!"
After some time of chatter, someone began to ask Amelia questions.
"Well... Amelia, do you mind if I ask you something personal?"
Amelia put down her cup and replied politely, "Please go ahead. I'm listening."
"We wonder if you have any plans for your future?"
"Hahaha!" Amelia could n longer contain her laughter. Eventually she burst out laughing. The ladies were perplexed at the sight of this.
"Amelia, what's wrong?" The ladies began to wonder if Amelia was in fact triggered by their words.
Amelia continued to laugh for a few more seconds before she finally managed to gather herself. Flushing, she finally announced, "Aunties, I'm fine. To be honest with you, it was exactly Patrick that you've been warning me to beware of."
"What?!"
After sending off those ladies who were yet to recover from shock at the door, Alice turned around and looked at Amelia. She hesitated, "Amelia, I..."
As Amelia met with Alice's hesitating gaze, Amelia asked fawningly, "Aunt Alice, what do you want to say?
"Alice finally said apologetically, "I did not mean to keep from them the fact that you and Patrick have gotten back together."
Amelia gave her a tiny nod before she said, "I know. You're trying to keep this secret for us, am I right?"
Alice nodded and explained, "Certainly it's going to be unbelievable for most people as soon as they learn that you and Patrick have gotten back together. What's worse, some may have gossiped and badmouthed at your back.
Even if those people are my close friends, I feel that there's a need for me to get your permission before I announce this good news to them.
That was why I thought of telling them the truth but choose not to at the end when they offered to introduce you with the men they thought would be suitable for you. But, I did not expect that you would be brave enough to tell them yourself."
"Aunt Alice, you did what you had to in order to protect Patrick and me. I truly appreciate that."
Amelia was moved by Alice's thoughtfulness. However, she also added determinedly, "Aunt Alice, I understand your concern. It's completely okay. If anyone were to ask you about this next time, you can go ahead and tell them that I've decided to get back together with my ex-husband. It doesn't matter if those people are going to call me a fool. I don't care at all!"
