Kinsley's words made Mrs. Kinsley waver slightly. "What if he takes our money but does not help us get Pablo out? How about we let him save Pablo first, only then we give him the money?"
Kinsley found what she said utterly ridiculous. "Do you think he'll agree to that? He has all the power in his hands!"
Mrs. Kennedy then said angrily, "Then why don't we use the thirty million to beg someone else? I don't believe that Patrick Hopper is the only one who can help us!" Kinsley sighed. "Even after the conversation with Patrick yesterday, I still can't believe what he said. During the early morning, I received another phone call. It turned out that the man I sent to look for Pablo finally had some answer to where he is. He said there's, indeed, a drug trafficking cartel that was just ambushed in Florence. Some even saw Owen Hopper there. Everyone was respectful to him and following his orders. And in their arrest list, a young man named 'Pablo Kennedy' is included. Who do you think we can beg that can be more efficient than Patrick?"
"But... but..." Mrs. Kennedy was still thinking about other options.
Kinsley interrupted her impatiently, "That's the end of the discussion! Patrick didn't promise to help us once he received the money, but he's not a man who takes back his words. Besides, with his wealth, he doesn't need to scheme against us for the thirty million. We should just take one step at a time."
Kinsley had finally made up his mind. If he continued listening to his wife's long-winded nags, he would start having second thoughts! Speaking of which, the turn of events was truly unfortunate. If it were not because they were old and could not give birth to another child, he would never give up everything to save Pablo. He was too much of a disappointment!
When the Kennedys returned, Patrick was leaning against the bed with his eyes closed.
Kingsley dared not to disturb Patrick, he then glanced at Amelia. He noticed that’s her expression was regular, he whispered, "Mr.
Patrick, we... we're done."
"Oh?" Patrick opened his eyes slowly and looked at them.
Kinsley was perturbed and expectant as he suggested, "Mr. Patrick, if we pay the thirty million USD to that woman, will you write off what Pablo had done to you?"
Patrick smiled. "It depends on whether Mr. Kennedy and Mrs. Kennedy are that generous."
At that moment, Kinsley immediately plucked up his courage and said, "Mr. Patrick, we're willing to pay the thirty million to the lady, but... can we be bold and ask a return from you?"
"I know what you two want, just as you two know what I want." Every word Patrick said was pleasant in the ears of the Kennedys. "Well, I can promise you that when the poor girl receives the compensation, I'll send Pablo back to you and unite your family.
How about that?"
"Really? Mr. Patrick?" Mrs. Kennedy was overjoyed and could not control herself. She asked, "Please... please swear you'll do that!"
"Shut up!" Kinsley was horrified by her tone of command. He was afraid that Patrick would turn against them because of her!
Patrick smiled indifferently and said, "No problem. I, Patrick Hopper, swear that I will send Pablo back to you. If you don't trust me, you can ask a lawyer to notarize us on the spot.
"Well..." After weighing the pros and cons, Kinsley nodded and said, "Mr. Patrick is diligent. Shall we go and contact a lawyer now?"
"Sure." Patrick had no objection.
Just as the Kennedy ran out to make a phone call, Amelia asked with a strange look, "Patrick, what on earth are you trying to do?"
Patrick looked at her and said the word that did not match the grin on his face, "Revenge."
Revenge?
Then why could she not tell it was revenge?
Kennedys came back soon after. Amelia wanted to ask Patrick a few more questions, so she had to hold her questions.
Amelia was shocked. "Wha... what do you mean?"
"This is exactly what I mean." Patrick then drew his thumb in one line across his neck.
Amelia was stunned for two seconds. "But, you said you would send Pablo back to them!"
"I did." Patrick did not deny it.
"And you're going back on your words?" Amelia asked anxiously.
Patrick said with a relaxed look, "I only
promised to send Pablo back to them. I didn't promise that he'll be alive. It's better to leave his body intact than to have him torn up into pieces."
Amelia then asked, "If you're setting them up, then why did you suggest to them to find a lawyer to notarize?"
Patrick explained patiently, "Because if they didn't, they won't pay the thirty million USD with ease."
"What are you going to do with Mr. Van then? They'll sue you with that evidence."
Patrick did not look nervous at all. "Mrs.
Hopper, do you think they will still have money to pay the lawyer after giving me the 30 million USD?"
