"Do you think they still have money to pay the lawyer after giving me the thirty million?"
Amelia's heart missed a beat. For a moment, she seemed to have understood everything. "Don't tell me that... you've already looked into the Kennedys' assets?"
Patrick said with a faint smile, "Otherwise, why am I looking after Wayne and the rest for?"
"You..." Amelia looked at him, speechless. He was so strategizing that he terrified her!
At that moment, Patrick could not help but hold her hand tightly, as if warning. But, his tone was of pleading when he said, "Mrs. Hopper, in this world, you're the only one who can't be afraid of me. To you, I’ll never do such a thing."
Amelia hurriedly explained, "I know! I'm not scared of you. I admire you. I just can't find the right words to describe my feeling."
Patrick's expression softened, and he looked relieved. "That's good. For a moment, I seemed to have returned to those days when you rejected me. If you don't like me plotting against others, then I won't do it anymore." When the words came out of Patrick’s mouth, Amelia felt guilty. He was only scheming to avenge her because she was incapable.
If he turned into a demon one day, it would also be her fault! So, what place was she in to criticize him?
She leaned forwards as she traced his handsome face with her finger, and smiled happily, "Patrick Hopper, I accept you no matter what you do."
Patrick was thrilled, but he did not forget to add, "Mrs. Hopper, you're not saying that because you think I'm pitiful, right?"
Amelia stopped and asked angrily, "When did you become so unconfident?"
Patrick deliberately let out a long sigh and said, "I'm now a disfigured and bedridden man. Compared to you, a healthy and beautiful woman, I'm nothing worth mentioning.
Amelia cupped his handsome face in her hands and scanned his face up and down. "What's disfigured? Why don't I see it? Am I blind? Ah, it seems that I'm not good enough for Mr. Patrick since I'm blind and was divorced. Alas, I think I'd better give up earlier so as not to humiliate myself."
Patrick stifled a laugh and grabbed her elbow before she turned to leave. He pulled her into his arms and said, "Mrs. Hopper, you're a treasure that I exchanged for with my life. I'll hold you so firmly so that you can't go anywhere else apart from me!"
"Hmph, do you think I want to go anywhere else?" Amelia poked him in the chest and said, "If you hadn't pushed me away for other women, our child would have been a teenager now!"
"It's not too late." Patrick looked down at her belly and then back at her. The gentleness and fatherly adoration in his eyes were beyond disguise.
Amelia was moved. Suddenly, she said softly, "You can touch him." She did not know where she found the courage to say that.
"Huh?" Patrick was dumbfounded at first.
"Why are you so slow!" Amelia took his hand and pressed it on her belly. She then muttered, "Now you know what I meant."
Patrick stared at her reddening ears, and the wave of happiness caused him to lose his mind for a moment. His beloved Mrs.
Hopper was telling him that he could officially communicate with their child.
In the silence, Amelia crooned sadly, "Actually, before I divorced you, I've already found out that I'm pregnant. But at that time, you were focused on Sissi, so I dared not to break the news to you." "On one hand, I was afraid that you wouldn't claim the baby as yours. On the other hand, I was scared you would want to take him away from me. Under these two contradicting thoughts, I chose to hide the news from you."
Knock, knock, knock.
"Hmm, stop! Someone's at the door!"
Amelia quickly buried her scorching face into Patrick's chest to restore calmness.
Patrick held her with dissatisfaction with the disturbance. After calming down, he turned to look at the door and said in a low and unhappy tone, "Come in."
A sweet nurse with a graceful figure opened the door and strode in. She completely ignored Amelia's presence and said to Patrick in a coaxing voice, "Mr. Hopper! I'm here to check on you. How do you feel today?"
Patrick stroked the back of Amelia's head and said to the nurse with a poker face, "I'm good.
You can go now."
The nurse pouted. "But, I haven't taken down your physical condition yet."
Patrick noticed that she came empty-handed and asked coldly, "So, where's your recording notepad?’
The nurse was stunned for a while, she blushed and left.
Patrick snorted. "There'll always be some women who don't know their place."
