"Mrs. Hopper, what's wrong? You're suddenly so quiet."
When Amelia heard Patrick's question, Amelia's reflexive response was, "Hmm?" Then she came to her senses and replied, "No, it's just so comfortable here, I don't want to ruin the atmosphere."
"Mrs. Hopper, are you pitying the little boy?" Patrick had got it right.
Amelia lowered her gaze and looked at him. She then asked meaningfully, "I guess it's not just me."
Patrick chuckled. "Mrs. Hopper, do you believe that people try to do good deeds to make up for their misdeeds. That's what I'm thinking now."
"Do you want to help that boy? But we don't know him at all, and we don't have an obligation to help him." Amelia said with no malice.
"That's why I called it a 'good deed',"' Patrick answered with a smile.
"Then how do you want to help him?" Amelia asked curiously.
She knew that some of the wealthy would voluntarily do charity work, and their goals and reason often varied.
Some wanted to gain a good reputation from it, and some wanted to benefit from it. But she believed that, when it came to Patrick, those two things were not what he valued. If he said he wanted to help, he would do it without looking for any form of repayment.
Patrick gazed out into the distance and said, "I want to make use of the money compensated by Kinsley to set up a fund to help the children who are terminally ill but can't get medical treatment."
This was the first time such an idea had come to Patrick. He was not one who had much love to give but, after learning that Amelia was pregnant, for some reason, he started to like children. The idea of establishing a fund popped into his head when he heard the conversation between the boy and his parents, which softened his heart.
"Using the thirty million USD from Kinsley to set up a fund? Isn't that a bit inappropriate?
Amelia had always been suspicious of the source of the thirty million, though Patrick harboured well intentions.
Patrick took a deep look at her and said, "Mrs. Hopper, do you think that because Kinsley and his wife don't know about Pablo kidnapping you, so I shouldn’t seek revenge from them?"
"About that..." "I think you can think about it from another angle. It's Pablo's parents' fault for how he had turned out today. The Kennedys spoiled Pablo, and that’s the reason why he's so lawless. That's the first reason."
"Secondly, we paid a heavy price for letting go of Pablo last time. Pablo couldn't possibly pay for all of the things he had done, so I've asked his parents to make up for him."
"Thirdly, if we don't utterly destroy the Kennedy family this time, it's very likely that the Kennedys will lose their minds and revolt against us after they get back their son's body."
"Better deal with the devil you know than the one you don't. So, Mrs. Hopper, these are the reasons why I made this decision. I hope you can understand my point."
His words put Amelia to shame. "You're right. I'm too benevolent. Well, you've always been better at seeing the full picture in terms of the ways of the world than me, so let's do as you said."
"Okay, please leave this to me, Mrs. Hopper. I'll be the villain in the story." Patrick smiled.
After Patrick's words, Amelia could not help but show a helpless expression. Although he always went on about doing 'evil' and being the 'villain, Amelia felt that he was actually the incarnation of justice, since he had always been dealing with the truly evil ones.
"Ah, she's getting shy!" The old man noticed and hurriedly tugged on his wife and said, "Okay, okay. Stop getting involved in the couple's business."
"It was you who talked to them first!" The old lady pouted.
The lady was old but, in front of her husband, she behaved like a maiden, sweetly and cutely.
Amelia looked at them, hoping that she and Patrick could still talk and laugh as the old couple did when they grew old like them.
As night fell in the Ramsay's mansion.
When Amelia returned home, she saw the family doctor busying himself. She could not help but stop one of the maids and asked with a sombre expression, "What happened?"
"Ms. Amelia, Miss Brittany has caught a fever again. It's even more severe this time, and the doctor's trying to find a way to relieve her fever!"
"She caught a fever again?" Amelia asked in surprise.
"Yes." The maid looked at her anxiously. "Ms. Amelia... Can I leave now? I have to send her the ice pack."
Amelia let go of her. "Go ahead."
