When he heard Sissi said that she was going to invite Amelia to their home, Sawyer's fingers twitched lightly at his side before saying, "Okay, I'll invite her over."
"What?" The smile on Sissi's face froze as she gawked at him incredulously when she heard Sawyer's reply.
Sawyer raised a brow and asked in confusion, "What's wrong? Isn't that your idea?"
"I...!" Sissi was speechless.
It was complete sarcasm. She thought that Sawyer would dissociate himself from Amelia and lecture Abner!
This way, not only could Sissi achieve the goal of giving Amelia a blow, but she also would not need to be the bad guy in front of Abner. But, Sawyer had actually said yes to her request!
With Sissi's gloominess, Sawyer could not help but walk over from Abner's side to her. He asked with concern, "Sissi, what's wrong?"
Sissi felt as if there was a stone pressing down on her chest. She wanted to say something, but when she averted her gaze, she saw Abner standing behind Sawyer and staring at her as if her words would arouse his
contempt.
As a teacher, she knew that children shared a similarity, which was that they hated adults who could not keep their promises.
She was the one who had suggested inviting Amelia over. If she went back on her words in front of Abner, it would be like breaking her promise, and Abner would dislike her.
So, Sissi bear the thought in mind and could only swallow her anger and said, "Sawyer, I'm fine. Don't worry."
Sawyer's expression relaxed. "That's good. I'll make breakfast."
Sissi grabbed his arm and asked earnestly, "Why don't I help you?"
"No need. Just sit and enjoy," Sawyer replied as he lowered his head and kissed her on her forehead before turning to leave.
Sissi and Abner, who were left behind looked at each other. Sissi broke the silence between them. "Abner, Mommy has asked Dad to invite Amelia. Are you happy?"
"Yes! I'm happy!" Abner cheered up and exclaimed in a much cheerier tone.
"Mommy's happy as long as you're happy," Sissi said emotionally.
On the other side, Sawyer went to the kitchen alone, where Sissi and Abner could not see him. Then, a meaningful smile appeared on his face.
He understood the meaning behind Sissi's words. He had also wanted to check Sissi's intent with the help of Amelia. Women were jealous creatures, so if Sissi was obsessed with Amelia's existence, it meant she had not completely let go of her feelings about Patrick.
"Then... my love, let's see how you perform today," thought Sawyer to himself.
"And since you've mentioned investment, I might as well be frank with you. If possible, I hope you can take the initiative to withdraw from the construction of the Eastern District project."
"I know this isn't fair to you, Mr. Sawyer. So, to express my apology and sincerity, I will pay you full compensation and apologize to you personally..."
"Ms. Amelia, have you thought through what you just said?" Sawyer asked in a low voice.
"Yes."
She had already discussed this with Patrick. She had always felt that Sawyer erred on both good and wicked, so he was not a suitable long-term investor.
Patrick had also agreed with her decision. If Sawyer was willing to pull out, Patrick would clear out the damages and the follow-up investment. But, if Sawyer was unwilling to pull out, then Patrick would apply pressure on him. Sawyer would have to agree no matter what choice he made.
Sure enough, after thinking about it, Sawyer accepted, "Since Ms. Amelia Ramsay insists on drawing a clear line with me, then I have nothing else to say. But, I want to hear the truth from you, Ms. Amelia. Don't you like Abner?"
Amelia replied, "I do."
"I think Abner will be delighted to hear your words." Sawyer chuckled then said in a friendly manner, "If you're free today, you can come over and apologize in person."
Amelia was stunned for a moment before saying with helplessness, "Mr. Quartley, you really know how to make use of every chance."
