Come To Me (Amelia and Patrick) novel Chapter 1610

"Mr. Hopper, why did you come back so early today?" Amelia took two steps forward and hugged Patrick's arm in a natural motion.

Patrick patted the back of her hand and said with his eyes on her, "I missed you, so I came back early."

Amelia's face flushed slightly.

In the next second, Patrick's gaze shifted and landed on Maryanne. She was not out of his sight just because she was hiding behind Milton!

On the other hand, Maryanne cast a glance at Patrick in secret while he and Amelia were talking. Unexpectedly, Patrick glared at her at the same time, which scared her. So, she retreated behind Milton again.

At the sight of this, a cold smile appeared on Patrick's face. "Mr. Cook, Miss Maryanne Smith, have you two also just arrived?"

Milton answered, "No, we're about to leave."

"Oh? Why don't you two stay a little longer?" Patrick raised an eyebrow, but his eyes were fixed on Maryanne.

Milton leaned to one side. He gently held

Maryanne's shoulder, then said to Patrick, "There's no need. Maryanne isn't feeling well. I'm sending her back."

Patrick was taken aback by Milton's intimacy with Maryanne. Then, Patrick replied with a faint smile, "Mr. Cook is so caring towards your girlfriend."

Milton nodded lightly and returned, "If there's nothing else, well leave first."

"Wait..." Then, Patrick added, "Miss Maryanne Smith, I have something to discuss with Mr. Cook. Can you take a rest in the car in the meantime?"

Maryanne stuttered, "Okay." Then, she took the car key from Milton and hurried to the basement parking lot.

"Amy." Patrick called out to Amelia, "Go inside first, or you'll get sunburn."

Amelia tugged on his sleeve and nervously muttered, "Mr. Hopper, what are you doing?"

Patrick knew what she was thinking. He could not help but smooth the back of her head when he said dotingly, "Don't worry, we won't argue."

Amelia blinked and asked, "Are you sure?"

Patrick laughed deep down when he said, "Your husband's words aren't worthy of your trust?"

Amelia sighed and went back into the house.

Once the men were left alone, Milton immediately said, "If you have something to tell me, just say it."

Patrick looked at Milton and got straight to the point. "You're not serious with Maryanne, are you?"

Milton's back slightly stiffened from Patrick's remark and said with a frown, "That seems to have nothing to do with you."

Faced with such an erratic answer, Patrick jeered mockingly, "It doesn't have anything to do with me? Maryanne hurt Amelia, and I'm not keeping her alive for her to date you."

Milton replied coldly, "I know. You want to hurt Maryanne by using me..."

"Wait, hurt Maryanne?" Patrick affirmed, "You're actually in love with her."

"I...!" Milton's face fell.

Patrick then questioned shrewdly, "In other words, you don't have feelings for Amy anymore?"

"Of course not!" Milton blurted out without even thinking, "I've always treated Amelia with utmore sincerity!"

"Is that so?" Surprisingly, Patrick did not lose his temper this time. Instead, he smiled and asked, "If that's the case, you won't mind if I do anything to Maryanne?"

"What do you want to do?" The look in Milton's eyes suddenly sharpened, like a wolf ready to protect its food.

Patrick narrowed his eyes and sized Milton up and down. "According to our agreement, you and Maryanne should only be a pretend couple. But now, you're getting so nervous about her. You're making me think that you're in love with her."

Milton avoided the question and said, "She's just a lady, and you've ruined both of her hands. Isn't that enough?"

Patrick chuckled. "I don't remember you saying that back then. You were thoroughly satisfied with my plan."

Milton rebuked angrily, "That's enough! Don't intervene in my affairs with Maryanne!"

"Do you think I'll let her off that easily?" Patrick then faintly asked, "Or do you think it's not a serious matter that Amy was pushed down the stairs and not worthy for me to get to the bottom of it?"

Milton's hands clenched into fists.

Indeed, he hated Maryanne back then, and he was more than eager to see her pitiful face after he dumped her. But even when he admitted that he had become softhearted to Maryanne, it did not mean that he could forget her crime towards Amelia.

Then, Milton suddenly asked, "If Maryanne truly regrets what she did back then, can you show mercy and leave this matter alone?"

In the basement parking lot.

Maryanne was anxiously waiting in the car. She kept glancing at her watch as if she could figure out how much Patrick and Milton had exchanged by looking at the time.

Of course, she knew what kind of agreement Patrick and Milton made in private, and she was afraid that Patrick would do something even crueller to her.

Time ticked up. Just as Maryanne was about to give into desperation in the quiet parking lot, the door to the driver's seat pulled open, which revealed her longing face.

"Milton!"

Milton got into the car then looked at her with his normal composure. "Maryanne, was I gone for too long?"

"No..." Maryanne responded. After that, she shifted her body with a little uneasiness and asked nervously, "What... did Patrick tell you?"

"It's nothing," Milton answered faintly and strapped on the seatbelt.

Maryanne's eyes continued staring at him for a moment. Then, she looked out of the window with mixed feelings of sorrow and relaxation on her face.

She was sorrowful because she realized that Milton was hiding something from her.

And the reason she felt relaxed was that she knew that Milton would not turn against her for the time being.

And at this moment, Maryanne completely understood the meaning behind Amelia's words outside the washroom. It was too hard to pretend to be innocent and ignorant in front of Milton all day.

"Maryanne, what do you think?"

After some time, Maryanne noticed that Milton was talking to her. She turned around in a panic and asked, "What did you say?"

"Do you want to see a doctor first?" Milton repeated and asked with a scowl, "Maryanne, what are you thinking about?"

"I..." Maryanne avoided his gaze. "It's nothing."

However, Milton's eyes were staring fixedly at hers. "By the way, when you saw Patrick, you acted strangely. Is hethat scary?"

He was obviously testing Maryanne. If she was willing to tell him about how she had pushed Amelia down the stairs, he could have forgiven her.

But Maryanne pursed her lips and answered with a sad expression, "I used to have a crush on him, but he rejected me. So whenever I see him again, I feel a little unease."
