After Jessica left, Patrick asked softly, 'Amy, do you feel sad that she can't attend our wedding?"
"Yes," Amelia admitted.
"But in this way, Florence gets the chance."
"What do you mean?"
Patrick glanced at her and said, "She has always told me that she wanted to be your maid of honour. I was about to persuade her to quit that thought."
The blues on Amelia's face disappeared, replaced with a tinge of joy. "Really?"
"Yes. It's the best time for her to take the throne. And because I'm her brother, I'm helping her case," Patrick said with a reluctant tone.
Amelia sniggered. "No problem. I agree!"
"I think she'll be too happy to sleep tonight."
After the couple returned to the house, Amelia began to tidy up the living room. This was the place where Sierra often spent her time, and she usually messed up everything around her.
The newspapers and magazines stored at the bottom of the coffee table were all jumbled up too.
When Amelia took them out and folded them, she came across a newspaper from a few days ago. The title caught her eye.
From a glance, she raised the newspaper in shock and said to Patrick, "Mr. Hopper! Isn't this woman named Yancie in the newspaper the same name we heard from the recorder Brittany gave us?"
At that, Patrick took the newspaper quickly and said with concentration, "Yancie?"
"Yes! The newspaper claims that she's missing..." Amelia then questioned strangely, "Do you think it's the same name? Or did we mishear?"
After reading the newspaper, Patrick said to Amelia, "Amy, bring the recorder here. We'll listen to it again."
"Okay!" Amelia immediately went to retrieve it.
A moment after, Amelia pushed play on the recorder, and soon, the conversation between Kaleb and a woman sounded. When Amelia heard Kaleb shouting 'Yancie', she immediately pressed pause and looked at Patrick.
"The pronunciation is exactly the same," Patrick murmured in a low voice.
"This name has only appeared once in all the evidence. The one who had collected the evidence must have edited it," Amelia analyzed.
Patrick crossed his hands and put them to his chin. After thinking for a while, he said, "If Yancie is the missing one in the newspaper, I'm afraid this is more complex than a missing person case."
Amelia pondered for a moment and suggested, "Mr. Hopper, why don't we ask Brittany? She was the one who got the evidence. Maybe she knows what happened?"
"Okay, go and get ready. We'll leave now."
When Patrick and Amelia showed up at the hospital, Richard was standing guard outside the ward. Whether Brittany was out of her mind or not, Richard's priority was to keep an eye on her.
"Bro Patrick, Amelia, here you two are," Richard quickly stood up and greeted them when he saw the couple.
"Thank you for your hard work," Patrick greeted back. Patrick then said, "We have something to ask Brittany. How is she today?"
"After she was sent here, she doesn't speak much apart from when she made a big fuss to see Amelia. But..."
Richard first looked at Amelia with embarrassment, then whispered to Patrick, "The experiments I did on her seemed to have left her with a lot of aftermath trauma, which caused her to often wake up from nightmares and incontinence. Even the nurses can't stand it, let alone me. Bro Patrick, you should be prepared before you enter."
Patrick nodded calmly, then he turned to Amelia and said, "Amy, let's wear a mask before we go in." "A mask?" Amelia looked surprised.
"Yes. Richard told me that Brittany caught a cold," Patrick lied through his teeth.
Amelia looked at Richard.
Patrick turned to Richard as well to give him silent pressure.
Richard did not want to tell Amelia the truth. After all, if she got angry, he would be the one in the most trouble.
So, he nodded, and his baby face looked sincere. "Yes, Amelia. You'd better put on a mask so you don't catch a cold."
"All right then," Amelia agreed.
Then, Patrick called a nurse to send two masks over. The nurse saw that Patrick was handsome and was happy to run the errand. After a while, she brought over two unopened masks and carefully told Patrick how to wear them.
To which Patrick merely said, "Thank you. I can do it myself." He then dismissed the nurse off in an instant.
On the contrary, after Amelia put on her mask, Patrick was still worried and checked her mask thoroughly, which caused Richard to sigh at how attentive Patrick was.
"Right, I don't know. But I think she must have fled," Brittany replied.
"Fled?"
"She sold the evidence to me and Kaleb. She didn't ask for much from me, but she extorted a large sum of money from Kaleb. So, I think to prevent Kaleb from going after her, she must have fled after the transaction. She also told me that she would leave once she finished blackmailing Kaleb," Brittany recalled.
"Mr. Hopper?" Amelia looked back at Patrick to ask for his opinion.
Patrick only responded lightly, "We'll discuss when we get back home."
Judging his reply, Amelia assumed that he must have an idea but did not want to say it because of Brittany.
"Okay. Let's head back then."
"Wait!" Just as they were about to turn and leave, Brittany suddenly stopped them.
Amelia looked back at her. "What's wrong?"
Brittany's body, which was covered by the quilt, twisted in discomfort. "Can... Can you ask the nurse to come in when you leave?"
"Okay." As soon as Amelia nodded, she heard a trickling sound. Under Brittany's panic expression, Amelia noticed the liquid dripping from the bed.
At the sight of this, Amelia said nothing. Then, she held Patrick's arm and left the ward with him.
As soon as they left, Brittany burst into tears. No matter how hard she tried to cover it up, the worst still transpired.
Outside the ward, Amelia found a nurse and told her Brittany's ward number. Amelia then finally took off her mask and said to Patrick in a low voice, "Mr. Hopper, Brittany doesn't have a cold at all. She's suffering some aftermath, isn't she?"
Patrick pursed his lips and answered, "Yes, but it's not Richard's fault. I asked him to scare Brittany."
"I know," Amelia replied with conflicted feelings. "I don't blame you, but I pity her. How much better is Brittany than Dad is now?"
"You're right. She's not much better. This is her retribution," Patrick responded coldly.
Amelia then stopped hesitating and asked, "Oh, right. Do you think Yancie has really fled, like what Brittany said?"
"It's possible." Patrick continued, "But even if she did run away, she must have left traces. I'll ask Owen to help me find out where Yancie is now."
