When Amelia and Patrick saw the newspaper report, Kaleb was considering whether to run away.
Initially, he was worried that Brittany would betray him, so he kept an eye out for every single detail that happened around him. However, he did not expect that Yancie's disappearance would attract the attention of the public before Brittany caused any fuss!
Although it was stated a missing person case, Kaleb was afraid that the truth would not contain itself.
Yancie's 'disappearance' was a mistake Kaleb had made on impulse. If he could reverse time, Kaleb would never choose kill her!
Also, Freddy had granted him lesser time. If Kaleb could not find an investor who could rival Sawyer in time, the consequences were foreseeable.
Ding, ding, ding.
Here it came!
Kaleb raised his bloodshot eyes and stared at the landline that kept ringing.
Kaleb got nervous as soon as he heard this sound because this signified the never-ending affairs and orders he had to carry out. Kaleb could not enjoy the pleasure of being the top decision-maker at all. The people around him were useless, and he could not trust people like Jonathan and the others, who were slightly capable. So, Kaleb had no choice but to do a lot of things himself.
While he was lost in thought, the landline continued ringing. Then, Kaleb picked up the receiver with a sullen face and said, "Hello."
"I'm Freddy Gradner."
"Oh, Mr. Gradner!" Kaleb managed to pull himself together and asked, "Mr. Gradner, do you have any instructions?"
"I can't wait any longer. Have you found a suitable investor?" Freddy's question verified the facts of Murphy's Law.
Kaleb did not want to deal with this any longer. Recently, the matter between Brittany and Yancie had already put him under great pressure. Kaleb wanted to give eup.
"Mr. Gradner, I was just about to tell you this. I've found a suitable investor. We're in the middle of a discussion now."
"Oh, really?" Freddy's voice suddenly turned loud and clear. "Who is it? Is he on par with Sawyer?" "Mr. Gradner, please allow me to keep you
guessing first. When the negotiation is done, I'll introduce him to you. Is that okay?"
Freddy thought for a moment and replied, "Okay. That's the deal! Remember, you have to score him down!"
Kaleb had a glib tongue and answered, "Okay! Mr. Gradner, if there's nothing else, can I continue the discussion?"
Freddy replied with a grin, "Okay, go on with your business. Let's talk later!"
After Kaleb lowered the receiver, he made up his mind to leave Northville for four reasons.
Firstly, he could not get a great investor. Secondly, the company was in a mess. Thirdly, Brittany was abducted. And finally, Yancie's disappearance was published on the news. If Kaleb stayed, he had a premonition that something would happen to him!
A sense of unwillingness floated to his mind again at the thought of fleeing this way. He had paid such a high price and even killed to get his current position. If he gave up like this, he would have lost everything he fought for.
Immersed in his thoughts, Kaleb then suddenly picked up the phone and called the finance department. After that, he applied to mobilize the company's funds on the grounds of starting the Easthern District project again.
At the same time, at Home of Smith.
When the servant informed Hobart that there was a young man called 'Milton' at the door, Hobart stopped beating the sandbag midexercise. He shook off the sweat from his forehead and told the maid in a hoarse voice, "Got it! Don't let him in, okay?"
"Yes, sir," the maid responded then left.
Half an hour later, Hobart shook his sore wrists. Just as he was about to take off his gloves and look for Maryanne, the maid came to him again. She said, "Mr. Hobart, Mr. Cook keeps ringing the doorbell. He has been doing that for half an hour now. Are you going to leave him like this?"
Hobart was enraged. "I'll go chase him away!"
Once they were out of the gym, Hobart heard the doorbell immediately. All the maids in the house had irritated expressions on their faces.
So, Hobart clenched his jaw and came to the door. He flung open the door and shouted, "What are you doing here?"
Outside the door, Milton slowly lowered his hand that was ringing the doorbell and said politely, "Mr. Hobart, I'm here for Maryanne."
"How dare you mention Maryanne to me? Are you looking for a beating?" Hobart asked as he punched Milton in his stomach.
Since Hobart had not yet taken off his boxing gloves, his punch was extremely forceful. Milton was out of breath for a moment before he straightened up and replied humbly, "Mr. Hobart, if I can meet Maryanne after you beat me up, then go ahead."
"Do you think I don't dare to do it?" Hobart raised his fist and pressed it against Milton's chest. "Ask yourself. Haven't you hurt her enough?"
Milton responded in a low voice, "Yes."
"Since you've hurt her that much, don't come and harass Maryanne again! She's the princess of our family! Her feelings can't bear to be played by you anymore. Do you know why I didn't go after you and Patrick immediately?"
"Because Maryanne told me that she was the reason for everything that happened. She said she was the one who wronged Amelia first and voluntarily become your supporting actress in your 'play'. She didn't want me to blame you two! Especially you, Milton Cook!"
"Do you know how I felt when she told me all of this? It's the same way as you felt when you found out Amelia was pushed down the stairs!"
"Wait a minute, Hobart," Maryanne stopped him. After that, she asked Milton with no expression on her face, "What are you here for?"
"Maryanne, there's something I want to talk to you about in private." Milton's confidence immediately strengthened in front of Maryanne. It was as if he knew that Maryanne would not reject his request, and Hobart would not refuse Maryanne's.
Hobart scowled and said, "I'm Maryanne's brother. If you have anything to say, say it in front of me!"
Unexpectedly, Maryanne interjected, "Hobart, please leave us alone."
"Maryanne!" Hobart cried out anxiously, "I'm afraid he'll cross you again. Do you know that?"
Maryanne looked at Hobart and smiled faintly. "I've already lived through so many things, so will this do anything to me? Hobart, please leave us. I'll call you if I need you."
Milton stared fixedly at the smile on Maryanne's face. Back then, what he wanted the most was to blot out the smile from her face and let her experience the pain of the world. However, when he saw Maryanne's smile, he realized that her smile was what he longed for the most.
However, when Maryanne turned to face him, her smile vanished, which caused him to frown uncomfortably.
Maryanne's heart wrenched when she saw his scowl. Was all the price she had paid not enough to make up for what she did to Amelia?
"Milton... What else do you want to do for Amelia?" Maryanne thought sadly.
Jealousy tormented Maryanne's heart. After taking a deep breath, she said to Milton, "Come in."
As Hobart watched Milton enter Maryanne's bedroom, he felt his fists itch. Standing at the door, he thought to himself, "As long as Maryanne gives the word, I'll immediately charge in and throw a heavy punch at that sc*mbag!"
Once in the room, Maryanne tidied up her undergarments hanging on the back of the chair and said briefly to Milton, "Sit."
Milton's gaze darkened as he watched her movements. "You've never avoided those from me in the past."
Maryanne paused halfway while shutting her wardrobe. Then, she said with misery, "That was in the past."
After that, she turned to face Milton. "There are only the two of us now. Can you tell me your purpose for being here now?"
Milton said solemnly as he heard her words, "Maryanne, I'm here to tell you that I don't want to break up with you."
What?
Maryanne's first reaction was disbelief. But very quickly, she began to wonder what kind of trick was Milton hiding in his sleeves.
