Once Jocelyn had finished her final look and slipped into her evening gown, Veronica was ready to step back and call it a day.

“Hey, the gold hairpin for the headpiece! It looks like we left it in the van! I must’ve forgotten about it when we got out,” one of the staff exclaimed.

With everyone in the dressing room scrambling under a time crunch, Veronica offered, “I’ll go grab it.”

The van was parked in the theater’s underground garage.

Following the rough location given by the staff members, Veronica found the hairpin without issue. She let out a breath of relief.

Just as she stepped out of the van and turned to head back, a red laser suddenly flashed at her from across the lot, causing her to shut her eyes instinctively.

In the backseat of a nearby car, Miriam’s hand froze midair, laser pointer still in hand.
