Dumped Omega? Now Their Alpha King Begs at My Feet novel Chapter 27

Kai's POV

The meeting continued, but its purpose had changed entirely. It was now a stage for me to understand the woman I was determined to make my own.

Isabella, desperate to recover from being so publicly dismissed, kept trying to prove her worth. She jumped into every lull in the conversation, her voice a little too bright, a little too eager.

She talked about the charity galas she organized to improve public relations with the human community. She listed the political alliances she maintained with weaker, sycophantic packs to the east. She even tried to show off her extensive knowledge of various family trees, as if reciting a history book was a sign of strength.

"The Blackwood pack, for instance, has a lineage that can be traced back to the first schism, but their maternal line has always been weak," she'd offered, trying to sound insightful.

It was all fluff. Useless, boring noise. It was the performance of a Luna, not the action of a leader.

I half-listened, nodding politely when required, a mask of faint interest on my face, but my real attention, my entire focus, was on Valerie.

She had fallen silent after her first answer, a calm, observant presence at the table. Her silence was more compelling to me than Isabella's endless, desperate chatter. She was watching, listening, analyzing everyone in the room. I could feel her intelligence like a quiet hum in the air.

I decided to test her again, this time on a different front, to see if her mind was as sharp as her instincts.

"The silver output from your Silvercrest mines dropped last quarter," I said, directing the question to her again, pointedly ignoring her father, who was the official head of their business empire. "Your refineries are inefficient."

It was a complex business question, a deliberate trap designed to see if her knowledge had any depth beyond simple, brutal aggression. It was a subject Isabella wouldn't dare touch.
