Dumped Omega? Now Their Alpha King Begs at My Feet novel Chapter 26

Kai's POV

Her words, "I will not be traded like a piece of property," echoed in my head. They were a direct refusal of my authority, a slap in the face to a century of tradition.

Any other wolf, any other Alpha, would have been insulted, their pride wounded. I felt the exact opposite. A slow, hot thrill, the likes of which I hadn't felt in years, coursed through my veins. It was the exhilarating feeling of a predator finally meeting a creature that was not prey.

In that moment, my entire strategy shifted. The goal was no longer to delay or escape a political contract I found boring.

The goal was to win the woman sitting across from me. This meeting was no longer a negotiation about land or assets.

It was an interrogation of my future mate. I needed to know who she was beneath that calm, defiant exterior. I needed to see the depth of her spirit.

I leaned back in my chair, a slow, deliberate movement, my eyes never leaving hers. I began my assessment. I started asking questions, framing them as pack business, but they were all aimed directly at her.

I was testing her, probing for weakness, for intelligence, for the quality of her mind and her will.

"We have rogue wolf packs encroaching on our southern border," I said, my voice low and direct, creating a bubble around the two of us that excluded everyone else at the table. "They're testing our defenses, killing livestock, growing bold."

"They hit a farm last night, slaughtered a shepherd's flock for sport," I added, giving the problem a sharp, personal edge. "What would be your move?"

Beside me, Isabella saw her chance to jump in, to prove her worth as the perfectly trained Luna. She straightened up, placing her hands delicately on the table, ready to deliver a perfectly rehearsed, textbook answer.
