Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 134

We have to make it airtight!

Theodore froze.

Emma? After a long moment, he finally called her name, as if trying to make sure he’d really heard her right.

Emma smiled faintly. It’s late. I’m going to bed.Go ahead, keep mourning your lost love.

Emma, wait. Please don’t go to sleep just yet.He wasn’t giving up.

Emma had already turned her back on him, but his voice kept coming.

Emma, we’ve known each other for twelve years. For the sake of those yearsthose moments when we truly understood one anothercan you please drop the case?

He was pleading now.

Theodore, always so proud, was begging her for Cecilia’s sakeeven using their twelveyear history as a bargaining chip.

No matter how much she told herself she’d moved on, bitterness still welled up inside Emma. “So you want to make a deal with me, Theodore? If I let this go, are we justeven, after twelve years?

Theodore fell silent for a long time.

And just like that, the night settled into stillness.

Exhaustion swept over Emma, and she soon drifted into sleep. Whatever Theodore might have said after that, she no longer cared. Her eyelids grew heavy, and she slipped under. At some point during the night, she vaguely heard his voice on the phonelow, muffled, impossible to make out. She didn’t bother trying.

When she woke up the next morning, she felt much better. Her body still ached when she moved, but it was tolerable now.

Chapter 134

She decided she’d go to the wellness center for some therapy and rehab, then spend the day at her grandmother’s house.

After breakfast, as she was packing her things for the visit, someone came inthe door opening without so much as a knock.

At that moment, Fallon was tidying up the house. There was only one person who’d enter like thatTheodore.

Or so Emma thought. She didn’t even bother turning around, until a voice called out behind her: Emma.

Cecilia.

Cecilia knew the door code? She could just walk right in?

For a split second, Emma was furiousbut she quickly let it go. What did it matter? She planned to sell the house soon anyway. Getting angry wouldn’t change anything; it would only hurt herself.

Emma turned around. Cecilia was already standing in the living room. Fallon shot Emma a panicked look, as if to say, *I have no idea how she got in here.*

Emma gave a small nod to let Fallon know it was all right.

Cecilia must have come behind Theodore’s backthere was no way she was here for anything good. Fallon caught Emma’s look and quietly slipped out of the way.

Cecilia stood in the middle of the living room, eyes brimming with hostility, but she said nothing.

Emma wasn’t obliged to play hostess. She finished packing her things and headed for the door.

Just as she was about to walk past Cecilia, the woman finally broke her silence. Emma, are you just going to ignore me?

Emma paused. I see you.”

She knew Cecilia wouldn’t be able to keep quiet for long; when two rivals

So you’re not even going to speak to me?

Emma thought for a moment. “Well, Theodore’s not here.

Oh?Emma glanced around. Then who did you come for? Don’t tell meyou’re looking for Fallon?

Fallon looked suddenly nervous.

For me? We’re not exactly close, are we? Sorry, but I have things to do.Emma headed for the front door.
