If there was any feud, it had always been strictly between her and
Theodore.
But of course, Cecilia just had to go a step further–baring her fangs and claws, threatening not just Emma’s peace, but her life.
Cecilia’s gaze was glued to Emma’s phone, obviously worried that Emma might have recorded everything she just said. “Delete that recording from your phone!” she snapped.
Emma calmly slipped her phone into her bag. Whether she’d recorded anything or not, she wasn’t about to hand over her phone to Cecilia.
Seeing this, Cecilia started to panic. She was healthy and strong, while Emma walked with a limp–how could she possibly lose? Emboldened, she lunged forward to snatch the phone.
Emma wasn’t about to let her have it. Seeing Emma at a disadvantage, Fallon rushed over to help.
At that moment, the sound of a key turning in the lock echoed through the apartment.
This time, it really was Theodore returning.
Just as Theodore pushed open the door, Cecilia crumpled to the floor. She turned her head, saw Theodore, and immediately began to cry, eyes red and brimming with tears. “Theo…”
He wasn’t alone; the building security guard was with him.
Emma had quietly signaled Fallon to call security, knowing Cecilia might lose control–but she hadn’t expected Theodore to come home at that
exact moment.
Cecilia remained on the floor, looking up at Theodore with watery eyes. “Theo, I… I only came to apologize to Emma, but she refused to listen–she even threw me out…”
Chapter 136
Emma: Seriously? Not this act again. Even a dog wouldn’t buy that story.
Though, come to think of it, some people might be less discerning than dogs.
The security guard looked at the scene, uncertain. “Mr. Whitman, do you-?”
Theodore helped Cecilia to her feet and told the guard, “It’s a family matter. We’re fine now, thank you for coming.”
“Oh, right… Sure. Call me if you need anything.” The last part was directed
at Emma.
The guard was familiar with the situation in this household. He didn’t pry, but everyone knew the lady of the house had trouble walking; his sympathy naturally leaned her way.
Emma smiled. “Thank you.”
Once the guard left, Theodore closed the door. “Let’s all sit down,” he said. Fallon helped Emma to her seat, while Cecilia let out a dramatic “Ow!” and, staggering theatrically, collapsed to the floor again.
Theodore turned back. “What’s wrong?”
“I’m fine, I’m fine!” Cecilia tried to force herself up, grimacing as if in excruciating pain. The moment she stood upright, she collapsed again.
“Did you hurt yourself in the fall?” Theodore hurried over and helped her
Cecilia promptly melted against him, her voice trembling. “It’s nothing. Emma just… accidentally pushed me, and I must’ve twisted my ankle. But really, it’s nothing, Theo. Don’t worry about me!”
She put on a show of suffering, while insisting she was fine. Theodore sighed. “You always do this–pretending to be strong when you’re clearly hurt. You care too much about everyone else.”
Emma: Excuse me? Is this for real? She, the one with a real limp, hadn’t

made a peep, but here was Cecilia putting on a show–and Theodore was sighing about how brave she was? Cecilia could drop the limp act; Theodore pretending to be blind was far more convincing.
Cecilia’s eyes filled with tears at his words. “Theo, I just didn’t want to make things harder for you.”
Theodore gently helped her onto the couch, his tone so soft it was almost a caress. “I know, I understand everything.”
You understand nothing, Emma thought, rolling her eyes.
“Fallon,” Theodore said, starting to give orders. “Go get some ointment and massage Cici’s ankle for her.”
But Fallon stood firm by Emma’s side, refusing to move.
“Fallon?” Theodore’s voice sharpened.
Fallon lifted her chin. “Sir, you hired me to look after your wife—not to wait on some homewrecker.”
