Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 182

Jonathan’s girlfriend tugged at his sleeve from behind.

He swallowed his irritation and gestured for Emma to sit.

But Emma remained standing, curious to see how far he’d push things.

“This is your first time meeting Amanda properly, right?” Jonathan said, forcing a smile. “Let me introduce you. This is my sister—the one who married a CEO. And this,” he continued, placing a hand on Amanda’s shoulder, “is my girlfriend, Amanda.”

Amanda flashed a sweet smile and greeted her, “Hi, Emma.” Her eyes, however, never left Emma’s designer purse and tailored coat.

Emma hadn’t been out much in the past five years, but she wasn’t naive. She recognized that kind of naked greed a mile off.

Amanda tried to smooth things over with a giggle. “Emma, your bag and coat are both from those big fashion brands, right?”

Emma was a little surprised. After all, with Theodore’s support, her brother’s business had been doing well these past couple years. It wasn’t as if he couldn’t afford a decent bag for his girlfriend. As far as she knew, Jonathan had even helped himself to more money than he deserved.

“They’re alright,” Emma replied lightly.

Amanda clung tighter to Jonathan’s arm, giving it a purposeful tug.

Jonathan took the hint and said, as if it were only natural, “Emma, Amanda just called you ‘sister’ for the first time. Shouldn’t you give her a little something as a gift? Nothing big—just a bag like yours would be perfect.”

Amanda hid behind Jonathan, lips pressed into a triumphant little smile, her eyes glinting with anticipation.

Emma looked from Jonathan to Amanda, almost impressed by how brazen they were.

Jonathan threw his head back and laughed. “Grandma’s house? You don’t actually think you’re getting a share, do you? Let me tell you, no matter how it’s divided, you’ll never get a piece. It’s Dad’s, and that’s final! As for that aunt of ours who ran off to god-knows-where overseas—she changed her citizenship. You think she gets a claim to the family property? Dream on!”

Seeing Emma’s expression remain unchanged, Jonathan grew bolder. “Dad already said it: once the place is sold, all the money and property go to me. You won’t see a penny, not a single shingle! You can post as many people outside as you want, it won’t make a difference!”

Emma kept her composure. “I want you to convince Dad to give up his claim to the house and everything that comes from selling it.”

Jonathan froze for a second, then burst out laughing. “What are you talking about? Are you still half asleep? Give it up—for you? Amanda, is my sister out of her mind or what? Hahaha!”

Amanda, emboldened now, dropped her facade of shyness. “With how stingy and greedy you are, Emma, no wonder Mr. Whitman doesn’t want you.”

Emma blinked. Seriously? How did Amanda know anything about Theodore’s feelings toward her? Even her brother’s girlfriend was in on this now?
