Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 199

After her shower, Emma changed into the fresh clothes Sebastian had just bought for her. By the time she finished tidying up, the doorbell rang again—Sebastian was back.

“It’s me. I brought some food.”

Emma opened the door to find Sebastian standing outside, arms loaded with two large bags—takeout from a restaurant, and a selection of fresh fruit.

“Come on, you must be starving. Let’s eat.” Sebastian grinned as he set everything out on the table. “I wasn’t sure what you liked, so I just picked a bit of everything.”

But Emma noticed immediately—this wasn’t just a random assortment. That simple steamed sea bass was her absolute favorite.

She’d always preferred her fish simply steamed, while Theodore had a taste for spicy food. After everything that had happened that morning, both she and Sebastian were famished. Together, they polished off the fish, a bowl of soup, a stir-fry, and some vegetables, not leaving a single bite behind.

Sebastian wiped his mouth and laughed. “Emma, we really don’t look like dancers anymore.”

Emma shook her head with a smile. “Trust me, I gave up on dancing years ago.”

Still, it wasn’t often she let herself indulge like this. Old habits die hard, after all.

“Emma, passion lives in your heart. It doesn’t depend on what you do,” Sebastian said, pressing a hand to his chest and looking at her with earnest eyes.

Emma nodded in agreement.

“Take a break, Emma. I’ll be in the next room—just call if you need anything.”

Sebastian quickly tidied up and left, giving her both space and time to herself. “Oh, and by the way—I did call the police. They’ll handle everything that comes next.”

He knew what had happened today must have shaken her. Theodore had always been a scoundrel, but what he did today was beyond cruel. Still, once the dust settled, Theodore would come crawling back, and Emma would need to decide how to face him. She’d need time to think.

But Emma’s peace was short-lived—Theodore showed up soon after.

Sebastian was just about to leave for the airport. He stopped by Emma’s room to say goodbye and wanted to leave her some cash since she didn’t have anything with her.

When Theodore arrived, Sebastian was the one who opened the door.

Theodore’s eyes immediately landed on Emma, sitting at the edge of the bed in her pajamas, a stack of bills on the nightstand beside her.

“What are you doing here?” Theodore’s gaze at Sebastian was icy and full of suspicion.

Sebastian just looked at him, amused. “Where else would I be? Should I be off somewhere else, telling another woman she’s the one I’ve chosen?”

Theodore’s expression darkened instantly. He turned to Emma, searching her face for an answer. Emma just looked back, her face blank, her eyes cold and distant.
