Nita let out a cold snort but said nothing more.

Cecilia was still sobbing, tears streaming down her cheeks, when Hanley urged her, “Come on, hurry up and pack. The movers will be back to work soon.”

In her mind, Cecilia cursed Hanley for being useless, but with Nita and the moving crew standing around like a pack of vultures waiting for her to fall, she had no choice but to keep crying as she started packing her things.

She didn’t care much about documents or paperwork. What mattered were the jewelry, luxury handbags, and those expensive clothes—those absolutely had to stay with her.

She crammed everything into a suitcase.

But then, to her shock, Nita insisted on checking her suitcase.

“Take everything out,” Nita demanded, pointing at the contents except for the documents. “You can leave the clothes—they’re worn out and dirty, anyway.”

Cecilia reacted as if Nita had threatened her life. She flung herself over the suitcase, wailing so loudly her voice broke. “These are mine! All of this is mine! You have no right to take them! Let go! They’re mine!”

“Yours?” Nita tossed a bank statement in front of her. “Take a good look. This is Jared’s bank account activity for the past two months—where he spent money, how much he transferred you. It’s all here. If you want to prove these are yours, show me the receipts. Otherwise, they’re not yours to take.”

Cecilia froze, draped over the suitcase.

It wasn’t that she couldn’t provide receipts—she could, but many of them showed card numbers that weren’t even hers. And even if some were, the purchases had been made after Jared transferred her the money…
