Escape from Mr. Whitman (Emma and Theodore) novel Chapter 405

"I think you're overthinking this," Cecilia said. "Theo has always valued our friendship above all else. He used to say that since he had no family, we were the closest thing to brothers he'd ever have. Why would he suspect you?"

"He *used to* say that!" Jared shot back. "You're useless! Start a video call and point the camera at his phone. I'll look myself."

Cecilia muttered a curse but did as she was told.

Jared guided her through every app and folder, searching for his name. Nothing. He had her scour Theodore's email accounts multiple times, even glancing through business correspondence, but found no mention of himself.

"It's impossible," he murmured. "Could it be that Theo really isn't suspicious?" Then, a thought struck him. "Check his email client! See if he's logged into any other accounts!"

Cecilia tapped the screen and found another profile: Theodore@xxx.

"That's it! Switch to that one!" Jared shouted.

She tried. "I can't. It's asking for a two-factor authentication password."

"The fact that it's protected just proves there's something in there!" Jared's voice was electric with the thrill of discovery. "Try some passwords."

They began the process all over again, but nothing worked—not Emma's birthday, not any combination of his and Emma's birthdays.

Cecilia's head was spinning. "It's no use, Jared! Email passwords are more complex, a mix of letters, numbers, and symbols. We could be here all day and never guess it."

"Wait! Let me think…" After a brief silence, Jared spoke again. "Try this."

He rattled off a string of letters, numbers, and symbols.

The inbox opened.

"How did you know that would work?" Cecilia marveled.

"It was his old gaming account password from college! Now stop wasting time and look!" Jared urged.

And there it was: an email from a week ago with the subject line, "Regarding Mr. Jared."
