They had anticipated trouble at the press conference. In fact, they had been counting on it.
The sentence for inciting violence that doesn't result in actual harm wasn't likely to be severe. However, the high-profile nature of the case and the public outcry would likely lead to a harsher sentence. The story was still trending online, with a torrent of condemnation directed at Jared and Cecilia.
What Emma hadn't expected was that Cecilia would also try to harm Theodore. So much for true love.
But their twisted relationship was no longer her problem. After Larson spent a couple of days sorting out company affairs, they would be on a flight to Europe. The new school year was about to start.
Emma asked Fallon if she would be willing to stay on as a housekeeper. Even though they would be gone, the house needed looking after, and Larson would be traveling back and forth.
Fallon was overjoyed. She was especially moved when Emma told her she could continue to live in the house with her daughter, who would now be attending the local public school.
And so, it was settled.
On her last day in Cresthaven, Emma stayed home with her grandmother, packing up the last of their things. She even skipped her daily appointment at the Wellness Center.
Theodore waited for her there, but she never showed. He was still waiting when Dr. Fletcher emerged from his office at the end of the day.
"She didn't come today…" Theodore murmured, confused.
Dr. Fletcher gave him a look. "She told me yesterday she wouldn't be coming today." His expression clearly said, *And you didn't know?*
Theodore felt a pang of shame. "Dr. Fletcher, her foot… the treatments here were helping, weren't they?"
Dr. Fletcher's gaze was less than friendly.
Theodore pressed on. "She's moving abroad. Doesn't that mean her treatment will be interrupted again?"
