“Mr. Rolf Cooper! Mr. Gerard Cooper! Mr. Theo Cooper!” Melvin grinned wide, his smile shamelessly obsequious as he rubbed his hands together and dipped his head. “Mrs. Cooper, wow, what a coincidence running into you again. Looks like we really can’t escape each other…”
The bodyguards rushed over to block his way.
The Cooper family members all frowned at him.
Rolf’s gaze was unreadable as he waved for the bodyguards to let Melvin pass.
When Melvin saw this, his heart exploded with joy, and that ingratiating grin nearly split his face.
“Mr. Cooper, you remember me, right? Melvin from the Fairbank Group! We were this close to becoming partners before–such a shame it didn’t work out…”
As he talked, he kept nervously rubbing his hands, trying to read the room and catch any change in the Cooper family’s expressions.
All he could think was, maybe they’d loosen up and toss him a couple of contracts.
If the Fairbank Group could just snag a deal with the Cooper Group, the Fairbank family would finally be able to hold their heads high at this party tonight.
None of the Coopers even bothered to reply, their gazes stone–cold and distant.
Melvin wasn’t fazed at all. If anything, his grin just got bigger, his eyes flickering slyly as he tried to size them up–scheming was practically stamped on his forehead.
He glanced at Theo, then wasted no time nudging Jessica out from behind him. “Mr. Rolf Cooper, Mr. Gerard Cooper, Mr. Theo Cooper, this is my daughter, Jessica.”
Then he turned to his daughter. “Jessica, go on, say hi to everyone!”
The Cooper family’s oldest grandson still hadn’t settled down yet!
Sure, he was a good ten years older than Jessica, but hey, age is just a number.
Seriously, that wasn’t a big deal at all.
He was drop–dead gorgeous and the heir to the Cooper family–soon enough, he’d be calling all the shots.
Melvin’s grin grew even more excited, and he looked like he was about to shove Jessica straight into Theo’s arms. ‘If Jessica could marry Theo…
The Cooper family exchanged glances, all thinking the same thing as they watched the Fairbank family’s shameless fawning.
It looked like the Fairbank family had absolutely no idea who Sienna really was to them.
Pansy eyed their fawning, calculating faces–so shameless and two–faced, it was almost painful to watch.
She found it almost laughable.
‘Thank God…‘ she thought with relief. ‘Sienna never had to grow up around these people. God knows what kind of person she’d have become if she did.‘
But when she remembered all the mistreatment and suffering Sienna had gone through, her chest tightened with pain.
Pansy looked at Sienna and thought, ‘Coming from such a foolish family like that, and she’s still this amazing… Who knows what she’s had to go through behind the scenes to turn out so good.
To the Fairbank family, that smile from Pansy was like a golden ticket–proof that the queen of the Cooper clan was throwing them a bone.
“Jessica, we owe it all to you!” Hazel gushed, practically vibrating with excitement as she grabbed Jessica’s
hand.
She straightened up even more, proud as could be and barely able to contain herself.
‘It’s gotta be because Jessica’s tight with Amanda,‘ Hazel thought to herself, her heart fluttering. ‘Amanda must have talked us up to her folks, so now the Cooper family is finally looking at us differently!‘
Jessica couldn’t believe it–Amanda, the girl she’d been calling “Amanda” for days, really was as sweet and gentle as her name promised.
