Farewell to Love: The CEO's Desperate Chase novel Chapter 10

"Should I pack this away too?" Joyce called over, spotting the perfume bottle.

Emilia shook her head. "No, leave it."

She slipped off the wedding ring he'd bought on a whim, setting it on the table.

But as she watched people moving boxes in the hallway, she hesitated. After a moment, she tucked both the perfume and the ring into a drawer.

Not long after, the apartment was stripped clean.

Every trace of her—except for that single bottle of perfume and the ring—was gone.

Moving out always sounded complicated, but once you made up your mind, it was surprisingly quick.

It was the same with moving on from someone.

The car carried Emilia toward her new place. The wind teased her hair, and in the rearview mirror, her old house grew smaller and smaller.

You have to let go of the past to walk forward.

She had too many important things to do.

The sudden collapse of the Dennis family, the "accident" that killed her father—she needed to find the truth.

Her life had always belonged to someone else.

Now, she would live it as herself.

And it all started with that music show. It would bring the money she needed, and maybe, just maybe, let her father's old friends see who she really was.

Emilia pulled out her phone, found his contact, and typed: [I'll do the music show.]

Elsewhere, Vivienne was still crying.

Tyler tried to comfort her, but his mind kept drifting back to Emilia as she'd walked away.

She'd stood there, back turned, saying those final words.

She knew exactly what he'd wanted her to say.

But she'd defied him—again.

He'd sent her so many messages. She hadn't answered a single one.

Always the same.

In just over a day, she'd become a different person. Picking fights with him on purpose.

She'd done it when they signed the divorce papers, again at the hospital.

For some reason, Tyler suddenly remembered the look in Emilia's eyes last night when she'd asked him for his decision. There was sadness there, but beneath it, a steady calm.

Turning back to her phone, Vivienne gleefully scrolled through the comments on social media.

Every post was the same: a tidal wave of hate for Emilia.

"Vivienne was just at the hospital for painkillers, not even life-saving meds anymore—just trying to die with dignity. And Emilia still had to cause a scene!"

"Vivienne's almost gone, and Emilia still can't show mercy?"

"I'm telling you, Vivienne and Mr. Erickson are the perfect pair. They look like a couple straight out of a fairy tale!"

"Emilia fell on her butt and looked ridiculous."

"Emilia needs to step aside!"

"Emilia, get divorced!"

"Emilia, get divorced +1!"

"Divorce +10086!"

Vivienne beamed, pulling up her contacts. "That's exactly what I want—keep stirring up drama, make sure Emilia's reputation never recovers. Push her down, and don't let her up."

"Oh, and find out what Emilia was doing at the hospital today."
