His body radiated a faint warmth through his shirt, and his strong arm lingered around her waist.

Emilia steadied herself and pushed Tyler away.

She felt a little lightheaded, but she wasn't drunk.

They boarded the shuttle in silence, heading together toward Tyler's villa at the edge of the estate.

Neither spoke the entire ride. It wasn't until the shuttle stopped near a small grove that the silence broke.

"Mr. Tyler, Mrs. Emilia," Dailey, the butler, addressed them as they stepped off. "Mrs. Whitmore asked me to remind you—Mr. Whitmore wants to see you both first thing in the morning. She insisted you spend the night at the manor."

Dailey glanced between them, clearly noticing the distance that had grown. He sighed, a note of resignation in his voice.

"Mr. Tyler, Mrs. Emilia, the family's been worried sick about you two. Staying the night isn't what matters most—they just hope you can finally talk things through."

He dabbed at his eyes with a handkerchief, voice trembling. "I still remember the day Mr. Tyler brought you home, Mrs. Emilia. You were so in love back then. How did it come to this?"

"Please," he urged softly. "Sit down together. Talk it out. You'll feel better once it's all in the open."

Saying his piece, Dailey let out another weary sigh and shuffled away, still wiping his eyes.

Night had fallen, the estate's lamps glowing softly in the darkness.

Just a short walk through the grove and Tyler's villa would appear ahead.

Tyler strode into the trees first, but Emilia stayed rooted to the spot.

He paused and turned. "What is it?"

"I'm going back," Emilia replied quietly. "I'll come by in the morning."

She turned to leave, but Tyler caught her wrist.

"Emilia," his voice was calm but firm, echoing softly behind her, "We haven't seen each other in a long time. I think it's time we talked."

Talk? About what? Emilia wondered.

Down by the lake, moonlight shimmered across the water in silver ribbons.
